Heated seat not working
Heated seat not working
I noticed that driver heated seat is not working. How frequent is this issue. From DIY thread, it appears to be not an easy task.
If wires are going to be cut very few years, why bother.

couple questions:
1> does the switch light up ?
2> when you turn the heated seat on, does the light come on ?
i am a kinda of guy who tried to troubleshoot cheaper/easier/smaller things first....
check for connections...if you be a loose connection....if all the connections are on and there is VOLTAGE/AMP in em then you have bigger issue to tackle....
if your not so good with leather + electrical things....get a seat from the junkyard and replace your current seat....
you can search for seats on car-part dot com

remember this is a tech help forum so the reported amount of probs is not a direct ratio to all TL's
a contributing factor is mans wallet in rear pocket- puts extra pressure on seat wire
continued use of High setting instead of following operating instructions can lead to failure too
Its not that hard to do , or have an upholstry shop do it for you
remove seat-remove cover- make a simple wire splice to replace a burnt section
install cover (the worst part) and its good for several more years
Ck the dates on post to see if its really a major prob being reported this year sudddenly- or a ten year long thread
also note the people who posted and fixed theirs have not had a repeat.
`heated seat fixed $3` is the title iirc
buy a junkyard seat..and how do you know the heat pad isnt messed up on it?
this is a small thing to repair,,the pad is like an electric blanket for your bed--wires sewn into a pad

Fixed the bottom part of driver's seat twice (first time was due to my half-assed soldering job) and after 2nd time, it has not failed yet. Past summer, I fixed the back portion so hopefully I don't have to open up the seat anymore. I am basic DIYer (oil change, tire swap b/w summers and winters) without much background in electrical, so anyone handy can do this repair. The thread on the seat repair is pretty detailed.
fyi/info: the book calls for use of High setting for a few minutes until it warms up
THEN switch to LOW setting for continous use
what happens is the high setting runs until it hits a temp over-limit switch and shuts off totally
once cooled to a certain point it comes back on and runs till over limit,,,
Low has a thermostat that cycles the heat on and off as needed to maintain a nice even temp
high dries out the leather in the seat and overworks the very thin wires
Dont forget a good leather cleaner/conditioner now and then to the seats!
