Question Headlight scuff marks

Does anyone notice scuff marks/rock chips in our headlights? I am now very concerned about this because last Friday my Driver side headlight was hit....So I had it replaced.....I also replaced bulb because that went out as well and water ended up getting inside and fucked the inverter for the HIDs....I get the TL back from the shop and notice the new one is shiny and the color of HID looks different. The original left Headlight has normal wear on it scuffs/chips from the road....My real question is.....Are there any solutions in buffing out those scratches so it doesnt look so bad? Or is the new bulb just breaking in and will eventually dim down a tad? Let me know what you think...

yea i actually made a thread with a similar question about this a month or so ago...basically you can wet sand the scuffs/slight chips out with a very high grit like 2000 i believe and then buff it with a plastic polish such as meguiars scratch-x or some other plastic polish, should look shiny and like new!

Angry

O.K. its night time now and I sat and looked at both headlights....The new bulb has a yellow tint while the older one is a nice white/blue tint the way it should look....ITs really pissing me off I can't stand the color difference....HAS ANYONE REPLACED ONE BULB and the f-ing colors are off????? Will the new HID bulb eventually turn from yellow to the white/blue tint?

If you replace one bulb and not the other, the color will be off. HID bulbs undergo what's known as "color shift" after a few hundred hours of usage. It's recommended that you replace both at the same time if you want the colors to match.

Is is too bright where I will have people high beaming me down the road??? No cop problems right? Cop thinking I'm driving down the road with my high beams on and then see the tint....

10,000k is not "bright". It's dim. It's a blue-tinted HID bulb with illumination not much better than halogens I bet. Just replace your other bulb now. Best light output (safety) is stock (4100K-4300K). Anything above 6000K and your visibility and light output decrease rapidly, especially in inclement weather.

10,000 K HID, if it there ever is one is actually dimmer than the factory HID. Most people seem to think that a higher K (Kelvin) signifies a brighter bulb, but this is the other way around. A higher K means it is "higher" up in the Kelvin scale and closer to the blue end of the spectrum. The blue hue that most people see (and try to imitate) on high(er)-end autos like MB, BMW, Lexus is actually the prismatic effect of the inner reflector lens if the beam of light is viewed off-center. The 2nd Gen TL has no such lens and the bulb sits inside the headlight housing similar to most halogen setups.

IMO this is a better (and brighter) setup than those with an inner lens (like the 3rd Gen TL/ TSX).

If a cop would pull you over, it's most unlikely that you would have a "brighter" bulb but most likely you would have a bulb that is a color other than white which in most states and provinces is illegal. All he has to do is shine it on a white sheet of paper and if any other color shines on the paper other than white, then it's a ticket.
