Headlight question

Hello guys, I have a 99 TL. One of my headlight turns yellow after a few second. Both headlights should be HIDs(white). I went to autopart and asked them if they had headlight for TL. But he said I got to order it from Acura cause aftermarket one would fit. Is it ture? I am a student, where can I find the cheapest set (lightball+ballast)? Thank you very much Acura Fans~!!!

you don't have to buy a ballast! just get new bulbs because one of your bulb is about to go out.... cheap place to buy bulbs is ebay.... there are aftermarket under $15.00 and they will fit perfectly fine but bulb type should be D2R and you can either buy 4300k or 5000k for better light output...i had 6000k but you can barely see anything during rain...so just stick with 4300k or 5000k. hope this helps!

the reason you always replace in pairs is they lose output and change color with age--and the other will soon die
gen2 cars are ready for new headlight bulbs,,and taillight/brake bulbs

kaixen brand in 5000k are great choice for 100 a pair, or phillips or other brands on ebay for cheap will work as well-
no one knows how many years,, but worth a chance if finances dicate now

we have HID ballast system installed- get the right base and run whatever Kelvin scale color you prefer

you can run 14ks,, but you wont be able to see anything in front of you, and the cops will be all over you about it

4300 stock color- slight blue,
5000 more blue but good white on road for dark backroads and other unlit roads--best option for most drivers

6000k even more blue- picks up reflecto paint in lines and road signs --so for that its good for that in rain,,but the rest of the time,, I wish I had 5ks

14,000 would be `display/show car use only`- cops will see a bright purple and want to chat with you--those are not legal at all

stock bulbs 10 years old--that we all have--have lost some blue with age

And the online ads for new bulbs with pics--are not accurate, they show higher kelvin as still very white on the road--thats from the camera white balance feature and not reality

new bulbs have to `burn in` with 50 hours of use to get max color and brightness too

Thanks 01tl4tl,

I didn't know there was a burn in period. My new ones, 5000K from HID-Extra, have a bluish tint right now and not as bright as my originals. Instructions I found for removing the bumper said there were 3 screws under the grill that hold the bumper on. In trying to locate these, I screwed up the vertical adjustment and can't get it back up to the normal position. (No cracks now!) I turned the adjustment screw on the back of the headlight which helped a lot but it stopped making a difference before it was high enough. Any ideas? Thx.

ebay bulbs will do the trick but wont last very long. Went through 3 sets in a year, ended up forking over the dough for the acura bulbs (phillps orsam) $200 each. but are still strong a year and a half later
