headlight ballast/transformer replacement?

I need to buy this transformer/ballast (not sure which one it is). part no. x6t02991 the port shown connects directly to the low beam bulb, and it is mounted on the underside of the headlight. As you can see this has been majorly corroded and shorted due to the moisture level in the headlight unit itself. I also do need a passengers side headlight unit so if it is necessary to buy that to get the transformer/ballast i will. i also dont want to pay $500 for the part so aftermarket would be great if available. i will be installing myself and would like anyones opinion on how/where to get this cheapest. thanks in advance!

if you want the cheapest option, i have installed the aftermarket hid kits with good results. they don't last as long as the oems but for about $30, you can't beat it.

please see the many threads on headlights

many of us are using www.hidextra.com as a good source for full kit with everything you need
Suggest the optional relay kit $16,,only need 1,, to bypass the entire system and prevent problems
the hid kit has 2 new ballast- ignitor/capacitor and bulbs, suggest 5000k bulb color for most useable light on the road ..its usually $59 and has coupons on their own websiite or online search for discount codes for them 10-15% off

its a very simple install - cutting off oe connector and splice the new wires in -
if you can do that, you can do the whole job
ballast can be mounted to outer frame rail (use zip ties) out of the way- and the bulbs wire goes under the housing

the problem is i already tried that but the bulbs you get on hidextra are for brights (if you try to install them there you need no splicing or anything else) and when i did install and turn them on it blew the ballast.

I bought a new ballast and ignitor off ebay for $189.00. The dealer quoted me $400.00+. It took 3 days by standard mail. Just need to get it installed now

the hidextra kit comes with D2- bulbs--the correct ones for our HID low beams.
is that what you ordered?,,a low beam kit, or were you intending to upgrade the high beams to HID also?
what exactly did you do?

the new ballast must be spliced into the main power for the lows
it has its own connector wire to the bulb with the capacitor inline on that wire

i took off the factory low beam ballast and replaced it with the hid ballast from hidextra.com and connected the light, spliced the connector, and hooked everything back up. the light worked, but then i noticed that there was no splicing necessary to hook the ballast and light up on the other side. it was a perfect match for the brights. when i tried to go back and change the new hid bulb and ballast from the low to high beam the ballast wouldnt work at all. so it had to have shorted in the process along with blowing the fuse.

it blew a fuse because there is a problem
In your case, it was trying to run 20,000 volts into a 12 volt high beam bulb
HID = High Intensity Discharge
