changing my driver side axle
changing my driver side axle
So im changing my driver side axle today and im wonderin once u pot it out of the tranny is it suppost to leak tranny fluid??? Help me out i never thought its suppost to do that is it normal?
Ok thanks and another question i was lookin at my passenger axle and it seems to slide in and out of this other piece that goes to the tranny is that normal?? And btw i took it for a spin after replacing the driver axle nd i still hear the knocking that i thought that my left axle was doin. Help me out and i cant post pics of what im talkin about bcuz my computer is not workin so im on my phone srry.
The passenger side has a intermediate shaft. Its designed so that both axles are the same length from pivot point to pivot point. The end of the axle slides into it which is supported by a carrier bearing.
Damn bro thanx alot..ok so now what i was talkin about is on the right side part#7 that goes threw part #23-25..im sure thats what u were sayin?? How much (play) does it gotta have? Cuz it slide in and out like an inch..
It should have a little play. Don't play with it too much, though. I pulled mine too far and it fell apart inside the rubber housing. I tried to fix it by buying a new kit and repacking the grease myself, but the aftermarket clamp ring that holds the rubber boot on failed. I ended up buying a re-manufactured shaft to solve that problem.
Moral of the story: leave that part alone unless you know what you're doing.

i think he's describing part #7. fsttyms1 is right - it shouldn't move when the axle is installed and the rotor assembly is seated onto it. but when the axle is pulled out of the way of the rotor and you tug on the end of the axle,(like you're removing the axle from the transmission) the part (don't what the official name is) inside #7 will slide in and out. Of course he can't see it because the rubber boot is hiding the movement.
Is that what you're describing 02?

Ok so i took her in yesturday morning to the shop. And explained to the machanic whats goin on and he told me shell b done by the afternoon so i was like cool. So i left her there then i get acall from the machanic sayin that it needed a clip which im thinkin its #9 so it would slid out as much as it would cuz he said it was sliding out further then its suppost to.so now she driving fine honostly i almost forgot how smooth she drove lol
