having trouble replacing HID's...

Hey guys, my passenger side HID lo-beams burned out so I ordered a pair of 6000k HID's and they just came today. Then, I looked up the DIY and followed the instructions.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...24&postcount=2

The problem is, I can't turn the black circular thing that i need to turn 1/4 way to reveal the bulb and the spring loaded metal clip. The thing inside the red box in the following pictures is what I'm talking about.

Please help guys. It's really uncomfortable for me to drive at night without replacing the HID's! Thanks!

I have never had to replace any bulbs up-front, but I suppose if you needed to, you could always remove the headlamps to get better access. Some like it, and some dont feel its necessary, but whatever gets the job done.

but that would mean i would have to take off the whole front end which would include the bumper, grille, and the headlights. i know i can just replace the bulbs itself, but that black circular thing that i marked in red just won't turn...

try to turn it both ways it has to turn just a little and it will pop off i just changed my bulbs. Make sure the connector that goes on the bulb itself is clicked into place all the way. Mine turned alittle and melted one of my new 8000k kaixens in the first month i was pissed.

yea i tried both ways, but it just won't budge...by the way i don't know if this makes any difference but mine's an 03 TL-S. I don't know if the 02-03's are different from the 99-01? Not sure. But i tried turning it both ways and it didn't work.

yeah it has a rubber gasket between it and it takes a little force.Once you get that screw out that keeps it closed. if 02-03 has that i think its a torx maybe?

If you have one of those rubber strap wrenches it will help give you leverage.

Try to push it in while turning, and turn it the right way, counter clockwise, not both ways.

Sometimes I use a long flathead to push on one of the little tabs to get it to free up. try that

For the driver's side, you HAVE to remove the "snorkle" to get at the cover. This piece comes off by pulling straight up. In my case I had to put a claw hammer in the mouth of the snorkle and lever it out. Once free, it just slides in and out easily.

Once that piece is out, you should be able to get both hands on the cover and twist it. Again, the claw hammer might come into play here as well. If its really stuck, you might have to take out the filter box to get your hand in there.

Good luck !

Smarty.

I found it easier to remove the cars nose and have direct access to the light housings
with them off the car- working inside to deal with bulb clip etc

to me- knowing our moisture inside lens = ballast death
do the labor once, get an hidextra.com kit for 59$ before 10% coupons found everywhere
