1 member got a new tranny with more miles than that on his first failure. All he had to do was pay for labor. you should try and see what comes of it

You all act like Honda is doing you a favor, if they give you the parts and all you pay for labor(BS) on an inherent problem they have created. I guess im just not as forgiving as you are. They make millions while we pay for part of a tranny repair. Let me make you this promise if or should i say when my tranny goes even if it has 200,000 miles on it they will pay for the repair. This world is full of hungry lawyers and according to some I have spoken with on this matter it’s a slam dunk. Im just tired of seeing people with this tranny problem (die hard Acura fans) get taken advantage of.

They did do us a favor. They upped the waranty. They didnt have to. And its not a "Slam Dunk" others have tried it. Every car has problems. Honda atleast stepped up and extended the warranty when they didnt have to.

So what a car cant have a defective part? The NTHSA was involved and found no reason for a RECALL. Hence good luck trying to sue. You may find some judge that may lean on your side if you have multiple failures in a short period or were kinda close to your state lemon laws. Other than that feel free to try.
Ok Most of the posts have to deal with the old parts. They have tried to fix it and as of the latest feb 05 revisions, we havent had any of those fail. So it is possible they fixed it.

Yes. And to help sway people into coming back as repete customers. And i bet it works on the majority. The problem isnt as big as a forum makes it out to be.

Good luck with the tranny. Our TL's go through a lot of bashing and punishment. They may not be the best but there really aren't too many problems that can't be fixed. If the tranny is done sell the car. Sell it to someone who will enjoy it more than you will and then you can enjoy a newer car. Maybe the 07 TL? Just look to the brighter side of the street. Again, good luck with your TL and tranny predicament.

Never said it want a big deal. I said on forums things are often looked at as larger issues than they are.

If you were to read the big threads on it, or do a search on it you would find your answer. In short, the new parts they have been putting in our trannies AS OF feb 05 seem to be holding up. (no one has had the new design tranny parts that they have been sticking in fail yet.) And with past trannies many would have failed by now. Only time will tell. They have been trying. The problem was a DESIGN problem. The clutch packs were too small and didnt get enuf cooling. They have changed the plates and a shaft to allow less friction (=less heat) and a different shaft for mor coolant flow to them. It wasnt a simple fix to come up with. Ideally the parts should be larger but they couldnt do that with out a complete tranny redesign and that would be way to costly

^^ My brother did, he bought my last TL from me and the car did around 170K before blowing its first tranny. He always got his car serviced at Sunny Side Acura in Nashua. They spoke to acura and he only had to pay for the labor and got himself a new tranny.

well acura wouldnt budge they say i was already too far out of warranty and since i hadnt had work done at acura they couldnt say that required maintenance had been done and so i just worked a deal out with my dealer and it will be ready in about 3 days the crazy thing is that there were no codes, no flashing lights, the ony code they found was p0420 for the cat which will be done at the same time but i find that strange

there usually arent any lights or codes before it dies. The biggest indicator is the slipping tranny before hand (they all do it) the key is to watch and feel between shifts. Every on of mine would have a very slight slipping as it shifted between gears while accelerating
