Exclamation Grinding sometimes when accelerate!:(

I have a 01 tl

Sometimes maybe a few times a week I will be driving and all of a sudden it wil be making a grinding noise and I can feel it in the pedal.. Then if I let go
it stops right away amd won't do it again.. I do need a new driver side axle but scare this could be a tranny issue! Any help? Let me know

Thanks!!!

Also there is a odd noise when I start the car coming from by the pullys almost like a click stuck noise I can't explain as well as when I start her up and I'm inside with radio off I hear running water by the firewall is that normal water going threw heatercore?

change the damn axle, they are cheap. Go to rockauto.com and get an EMPI axle for $55 bucks and change it. If that doesn't fix the problem it's most likely a wheel bearing. Lastly it could be your Diff bearing but that's on the passenger side and you'd be best by changing the pass. CV and the half shaft at the same time to confirm as those are both cheap (aftermarket) too.

I agree- start with the known problem- before driving with a bad axle tears up the next bearing in line,,or the entire wheel and axle assembly decides to part ways with the car...at freeway speed

have not heard water run thru my heater core-
is the heater set to HOT? then try COLD and see what it does!
When set to cold the heater core is shut out of the regular system

Open then hood, have a buddy start the car while you listen to things
the AC belt tensioner pulley at top of engine is a common failure
grinds gnarls eventually sounds like a V-8 engine rumbling

fill the res to the middle
make sure the rubber hose inside is attached firmly to cap
Set heater to Hot with fan on- front doors open-
remove rad cap and run engine
perform burping procedure for your year- know there is zero air, and watch for leaks!

grinding with known bad cv,,c'mon--it will damage the trans if you wait long enough,
but right now its a seperate issue,,FIX IT
NAPA has all new for less than 100,,rockauto for 55

ac belt tensioner is very important- it keeps that long serpentine belt that winds thru the front of engine at correct tension thru rpm changes,
so alt and ac-water pump have constant speed,,not surges as belt gets tight and loose
Open hood and watch what happens there when you rev the engine
If its really bad it can stop momentarily and cause problems

new tensioner with the roller wheel and spring assembly about $100 at parts store
Im sure deals to be found if you look

Buy a mechanics stethascope- $4 at harbor freight, 10 everywhere else
It has a long metal probe tip you place against any NON MOVING section of metal,
any sound inside is amplified and brought to your ears
Makes finding clicks, whirrs, and grinding easy
Good bearings are smooth and rythmic
bad sound like gravel
Probe several parts to get a feel for what the bearings sound like, the valves...tick tick? tick tak time for adjustment)

don't listen to 01tl he doesn't know anything, joking he knows everything, have you checked your blinker fluid yet thats a known issue in a lot of places, sounds like you have a warped rotor, and possibly a faulty caliper

please use red text for arsecasm I mean sarcasm

so the noobs dont mistake it for actual advice and go looking for blinker fluid,,then someone post a link to a place that `carries it`,,(its been done here before-search blinker fluid)

You are correct- I dont know everything
and sometimes even confuse facts on different issues,,get head stuck on one problem and give wrong advice to a situation
Guess Im worth every penny they dont pay me!!

caution: Free advice is often worth exactly what you paid for it
verify everything-- trust no one!! best life policies I know

and--everything specific to the TL that I know = came direct from reading azine threads and....wait for it,,,,,the owner manual

my bad didn't think about that it was a half ass attempt at a bad joke, and from you and a lot of other members i was able to fix my car for about 200 dollars instead of what would have been at least 1100 taken anywhere and free advice based on experience is priceless the info you get on this site is excellent in my opinion
