I am trying to clean up spillage that went deep into the gear shift mechanism. I go the first black trim off, but could not figure out how to break down further to get some deep cleaning done. It is getting more difficult to move the shifter, and I need it clean. Thank you. 99 TL

 

Just gently pry up on the black bezel around the shift gate. It will come up, leaving the silver shift gate. Pull the shift gate on one side, and lift it up too. Everything else will come right off.

Of course, you have to twist off your shift knob first.

there are 3 micro-switches on the bottem of the plastic plate, below the shifter

use CRC electrical contact spray cleaner on them ,,they are the trans shifter signals!
soda on them = funky problems
