gauge lights wont work?

This is kind of a stupid move on my part, since I allowed this to happy.
A buddy of mine has a 2001 accord EX and our clock backlights went out on the same day. I pulled out his clock, pulled my dash apart to take out my clock and headed to the dealer. While I was driving down the road, he noticed my clock connector would fit into his clock so he plugged it up and it worked fine. Then he noticed the same about my Caution Flasher light switch plug would fit his Caution Flasher switch (located on his clock). He plugged it up and immediately my car made an unusual noise. The "ticking" noise my car would normaly make twice a second if my cautions were on was ticking about 10-15 times a second, even with the switch off. He unplugged it and i could smell an odd smell. After I got the bulb for my clock and reinstalled everything, I noticed that my clock was EXTREMELY bright and off-colored and that only it and my AC controls lit up anymore, even with the headlight on. So now I NEVER have any guage lights or anything lit up. My caution switch still work, so do the turn signals and independent lights on the display (Low fuel light, SRS, TCS, that sort), but nothing else, ever. Also, my odometer ONLY lights up if my headlights/sidemarkers are OFF, which is oposite of how it should work.

Long story I know, but i figured a detailed description of what happened might save some questions if anyone could help me. Any Ideas as to what could be wrong, I think some sort of relay or something is fried?

Thanks penance. But, how could I fry the circuit and my signals/cautions still work appropriately? Also, the odometer and guage backlights run on the same circuit i believe. Also its not just on the cluster. Also, the Moonroof controls, TSC, Cruise, Window switches, and Shift column lights dont work. I dont think they are tied into anything in the cluster itself. If he fried my cluster im going to be really pissed...

Any other suggestions as to what might be wrong?
