Front Wheel Bearings

Anyone change out just the bearing rather than the whole assembly? I typically leave the inner race in if it doesn't show signs of scoring.

The service manual has you pulling the whole knuckle off and going through all kinds of hell. I agree this would be necessary if the inner race is scored or burned but 99% of the wheel bearings I've changed, the inner race was fine so just replaced the bearing.

I haven't pulled it apart to look at it yet so am just posing this question up front. It goes from a 3+ hour job to a 1+ hour job if all you replace is the bearing.

Thx.

Similar to a diff, the wheel bearing assembly is usually an unserviceable part. If it were me, just replace the entire assembly with a new one. It's better than driving for 5k miles and then replacing the hub anyway.

The wheel bearing assembly is usually an userviceable part? I guess they've changed considerably since I last replaced the ones in my Ford F-150. They come as an inner race, wheel bearing assembly and outer race, as I remember. After thoroughly cleaning the hub assembly and seeing no signs of wear on the inner race, I simply packed the bearing and placed it in. That was 30K miles ago and haven't heard a whimper since.

Replacing the hub isn't even part of the equation unless the inner race destroys itself and melts everything together. I've never heard of that happening.

Maybe wheel bearings on the Acura work differently?

Your F-150 wheel bearings are not the same ones you find in your Acura.

This is a typical bearing on a front wheel drive car.

vs what's typically found on F-150s, Chevy's, etc.

The bearing is a sealed unit- no separate races, hence 'unserviceable'. Take knuckle or hub to machine shop to have old bearings removed & new ones installed.
