Hood Dampener Going?

Howdy all!

While I was getting my car rust proofed, the mechanic and I were looking at some things under the hood and he noted the dampeners that hold up the hood were going. I noticed the same thing earlier today when I went to put some windshield washer fluid in. If you open it normally, it'll come back down. I find now that I have to push it up as high as it'll possibly go to get it to stick. I dunno how long it'd stick there by manually pushing it all the way up, but it definately seems looser than it was before.

There were a couple of old threads on the matter, but they all suggested replacing them. I take it then that there's no way to fix this issue?

If not, then is this the correct part?

Would this be the sort of thing a novice could replace on their own, or better to get a shop to do it?

Buy them and replace them yourself. Its a 1 min job. There is no way of repairing them.

Depending on the year of your car.

Thanks.

Is there a DYI for this job, or could ya give me an idea of what needs to be done and what tools I'll need?

I haven't taken a good look at it yet to see how it's all attached... I'll try to take a look later today.

Take a look at it. All you need is a flat head screw driver/butter knife any thing to pull the little metal spring clip out to get it off. There isnt a DIY but its not hard. Just look and you will see.

Thanks for the response!

Just out of sheer curiousity for future reference, are there more heavy duty dampeners you can get? I ask since for hte next car I might want to dynamat the hood, and I'm not sure if the OEM ones will be able to take the additional weight.

Not for ours. Why would you want to dynamat the hood???

Well I dunno if I'm buying into the hype, but I've read that it helps reduce overall engine noise and helps to maintain proper temperature in hot and cold conditions.

DO NOT dynamat your hood!!! Absolutely no benefit to it. If you want to reduce cabin noise, dynamat the interior not the engine compartment.

lol, okilydokily then

I'm already planning to dynamat the entire car... the hood was just one part of all that since I'd read it was good to do... guess I won't be doing that anymore

Anyways, gonna look into the new dampeners for the hood, but I've gotta take care of some other fixes first.

Thanks!
