I found a local 1 owner 2000 TL with 131k miles in excellent shape. Always been maintained at the local Acura dealership ( called and verified service). Dealership confirmed the originally trans was replaced at 79k miles . That would put about 50k on the 2nd trans. Service manager says its been well mantained and saw the car himself last month in for routine service and new tires. Guy wants $5600 and I think it's a great deal, but I'm nervous about reading all these trans issues. I will use ths car only for about 3k miles a year sitting as my airport commuter car. Should I pass over TLs or go with it?

 

If it well maintained, and your barely going to use it why not. Alot of cars are going to have issues and the tl is an all around good car

 

I haven't had any major problems with mine other than the transmission other than that it's been a great car. I have only had small things go out/ need to be replaced in the 6 years I have driven the car. Just make sure sure when you test drive it you don't just go around the block and the transmission doesn't slip at all.

my tl is driven everyday i drive to work about 80 miles average a day, this car has be to Plains Dealing Louisiana to get my pops out of Louisiana minimum security state prison and back to Tx, Tx to Oklahoma no problems. i thank acurazine and 01tl from all the successful trips and resourceful maintenance tips i only use acura dw-1 ATF car runs smoothly these folks will help you learn everything you need to learn about 2gen tl which are the best!! haha imma rock this 2 gen til the end. imma pick up a swap for dirt cheap hopefully i can reserve it

 

I bought my 2001 TL with 80K over 3 years ago, now has 106K and never had any major issues and no problems at all with my tranny

 

I bought my 03 TL-P with 80k on the clock back in 2008... Now, 207k on the clock and the only issue I had was the trans but that problem was taken care of quickly and other than that, no problems what so ever. The TL is a great, well rounded sport luxury sedan and for the money, you cant get anything better than that!
