Faded & Flaking Paint

Everyone raise their hand who has faded and/or peeling paint.

Mine (1999 #695) has been doing this since 2001. My local dealer at the time (Acura Carland in Duluth GA) didn't give a damn. By the time i got some answers from the 800-number, my car was out of warrenty. However, they did tell me my car was repainted by the factory before it left. So, too bad so sad.

Of course i've given grief to any of my friends and neighbors who work at the Marysville plant

I finally got off of my butt and took some pix (it rained yesterday, so the car is very dirty)

Hood

Hood (you can tell were the bra used to be - the flannel fuzz imbedded itself into the paint - the paint is that soft!)

Roof - leading edge

Trunk (yes, it's dirty and the paint is cracked near the emblems)

....and here is what she looked like seven years ago

When they repainted it they must've used crappy paint or just plain didn't prep it before repainting it. That's horrible, your car is definately a candidate for a new paint job. Too bad you don't live where I do. I know an excellent body shop (quality work/materials and CHEAP) that could paint that and make it look brand new again.

Sometime in 2001 when the trunk started to crack and fade at the edges. Like i said, the local dealer didn't give a damn. I also noticed, at about that time, that if you lightly ran your finger nail on the car, the paint would easily scratch.
By the time i got any satisfaction from the Acura 800 number folks, i was out of warrenty. The first guy i talked to (while in warrenty) said "maybe i buffed the car too hard or waxed it too much"!

My parking lot at work isn't paved, so i keep putting off a new paint job.

btw, i did have my b-pillars replaced under warrenty, buy they cracked about a year later.

My guess is that their prep work sucked. It was done before it left the factory, so it's NBP, but super soft. I'm not a paint expert, but they must have got their mix wrong with the hardener or whatever goes into paints.
I bought a day two production car figuring that most all parts on it where hand done and quality checked a ton of times - me being an automotive engineer at the time.

looks like the primer they used didn't adhere properly. Paint should only be soft shortly after its painted. after 24 hrs it should be hard and after that amount of time it should be rock hard.
