early rev limiter

Im having a problem with my TL its hitting the rev limiter at 5500 to 6000 rpms versus at wat its suppose to in first gear. I think its the TPS aka throttle positioning sensor. Any takes or personal experience with this issue. Please all advice will be considered thnx

rare is the failure of a TPS
hows the maitenance?,,spark plugs--pulled to inspect? seafoam air filter etc
cat condition?
why are you trying to redline in 1st?
do you hate your transmission?

any codes?--dont need a cel for codes to be present
whats it do in other gears?

i have have a rebuilt trans, so it can handle it besides i change gears before it redlines, maintence is a litttle behind, but only by 200miles, also i ran bosche spark plugs but im chnaging them to ngk. it doesnt do it all the time but lately more noticable. 2nd gear is starting as well. im clueless, i have a code reader and theres nothing popping up, nor, stored in the ecu.

sure about that? just about everyone here has a rebuilt trans, and you will need another one if you beat on it. Our trans short shift 1 st gear, often right around or just before 6k, where as 2nd gear shifts at the red line. you can gate shift it 1-2 and hold first gear at the rev limiter, but dont do that much.

get the correct plugs in it--run seafoam to clear out crud left from bosch

why do people continue to purchase a plug thats not even approved by the maker for use?! they always die fast and cause running probs until changed
We dont need 4 prongs, 2 prongs or anything else the parts counter guy says ` will fit`
coil on plug needs a special plug, made to handle that ignition- thats why they are 8 bucks each!

to learn exactly when to shift your car- it needs a dyno run to find max torque for each gear

valve flutter is a major concern at high rpm, make sure they are adjusted

its your trans, keep the fluid changed and drive it how you want

I'm having the same exact problem in my 07 type S. It never happened until after I replaced my alternator. I replaced my spark plugs about 40k miles ago with the ngk's. Maybe spark plugs are going bad again? But why would it reach redline in every other gear? Car has 98k miles on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all

Are you revving in Neutral ? if so its normal for lower rpm cut off.
Unless your doing it for diagnostic purpose try not to.

If something is wrong with the tps you might get a code, further diagnostic is needed with a scan tool to be sure.

redline is not the ideal shift point in ANY gear,
torque band and power band into next gear is whats important- not wringing every alleged rpm from the engine

did your TL used to go higher in 1st?

Actually in the TL with its gearing shifting as late as possible without hitting the revlimiter IS the ideal shift point.

And yes, it should go much higher in first. Its a type-s

Im not type S so limited knowledge on those specifics

just below redline yes Kris- but NOT at redline rev limiter! that will cost you a race every time,
and in general is not a good plan if you have never done valve adjust with 100kmiles + on the engine
we have very little clearance between exhaust valves and piston top- a loose valve setting at max rpm can induce valve flutter- poor sealing, crossover to intake, and potential strike to piston = time for another engine!!

ck all the normal things- egr system cleaning inside of intake manifold done (every 75kmiles) good ngk $8 spark plugs in it? (every 60-70kmiles) air filter?
and of course- electrical ground is all important = clean or replace small grounds from engine to frame and the main batt neg cable- inspect test replace if needed
this stuff does not last forever
just because the car required no serious maintenance until 105 doesn't mean things cant simply wear out based on age and the atmospheric conditions the car lives in

seafoam/other cleaner thru gas tank and intake vac port - plus clean TB inside air plate- the big round thing- with carb cleaner or deep creep
clean and lube throttle and cruise control cables and throttle return springs
