!Dropped out of VTEC!

I was on 495 and I got on it. 2nd to 3rd, nice! All of 3rd, nice, but as soon as I shifted to 4th I dropped out of VTEC. Is anyone having this same problem? <01 TL-P : CLN AC>

Yes ! 4th gear is pretty much the overdrive gear for 2nd Gen TL. Soon as you shifted to 4th, the RPM will drop below Vtec to run in "economy" or "overdrive" mode.

You could get as close to Vtec range in 4th by red red (or close to red line) in 3rd.

Just my $0.02.

Vtecs cool and all but if you stayed in it all through out forth gear your highway mileage woudn't be what it is.

01 TL-P's are 5 speed tranny's. Would it still do that with 5 gears? Like I was telling fsttyms1 I think my timing is off, if the car isn't suppose to drop out like that.

The car WILL drop out of VTEC-range of RPMs when it shifts to fourth gear. This is known as the "brick wall" by many members here. There is nothing you can do about it unless you want to do what Kris did..

Not really much need to do 120 though.. that was probably Acura's thinking.
