Doors lock!!!

Hey peoples, I got locked out of my car the other day, luckily the trunk was open and I was able to open the doors using a long stick from the trunk, but the problem was that I closed the door with the engine running and then all the doors automatically locked!!! This has not happened before with the car running, I know it happens with the car off, but I never seen it do it with the car running.

Is there a way to stop this, since it's snowing out here now and I would like to start up the car and while its warming up clean off the snow but now I've been cleaning the snow off with the door open because I'm scared to let the doors close again, please help, very weird!

That's weird, usually the doors lock when you put it into gear.

I know it's really weird, I've tested it several times again since then, and 1 out of about 20 times I did it, it did lock again while the car was running, this time I was sitting in it, I don't get it, any way to adjust it.

The TLs do not have automatic door locks. It shouldn't be automatically locking at any point, in gear, in park, turned off, rolling, or stopped.

You have a weird electrical problem it seems.

I have a aftermarket alarm. I'm assuming that is why it locks the doors by itself. Do you have a aftermarket alarm?

Oh if you have an AEM alarm, then yes, the door locks might lock by themselves. But the stock TL alarm should not do this under any circumstance.

i noticed a few times that shortly after I unlock the car with the remote - it locked itself again. I got the idea that my remote transmitter was overly sensitive or in need of replacement. As if the large button is activating even when I'm not touching it. I have only noticed it a few times.

this happened to me once b4, it was because my driverside door sensor was bad. the car was not seeing that the door was opening, check to see it your dome light comes on when opening the door.

Yes the OEM alarm IS NOT supposed to lock the doors unless A you lock them or B they are already locked and you hit unlock and dont open the door within a set amount of time. If that time goes by with out the door being opened, then it will relock them for you.

Mine does the exact same thing. It locks all doors if the trunk is open after about 1 minute. If the trunk is closed it doesnt lock the doors.

It's supposed to do that all of the time. If you press the unlock button on the remote and don't open any door within 30 seconds it will lock all of the doors.

I guess this is to prevent any accidental button pushing from leaving your doors unlocked as you walk away from your car. I personally like that feature a lot.

my 02 does the same exact thing (no aftermarket alarm). Most times I will leave the door cracked so I won't get locked out. In some ways it's a good feature and other ways it could be a nightmare if I got locked out.

Its actually a stupid feature and I wish I could turn it off. For work I sometimes have to run to UPS to pick up packages and if pop the trunk then close the doors it locks me out every time. It even does it with the engine running which is really dumb.

Now I have to always be careful to take the keys with me but it would be nice to be able to turn this annoying feature off. Acura doesnt even mention it in the manual so the first time it happens its a call to the locksmith

Mmm, I'll have to try that out tomorrow. I've never had it happen to me, but then again, I've never paid attention to the trunk thing.

I tried it today, and it didn't happen.

Perhaps there's an electrical glitch, or it was only on certain model years?

I found out that this part of the security system. If the doors are unlocked with the remote and not opened within 30 seconds they lock automatically. Basically what I have been doing is using the remote to unlock the passenger doors and if they werent opened within 30 seconds all doors automatically lock

It's pretty common knowledge that that's how the security system works, but for learning something new every day.
