Dashboard short?
Dashboard short?
2000 TL. I don't think this is the general "maint req's" light situation. At times I have a problem where my "maint req'd" light comes on intermittently, the radio loses power for a few seconds and the dashboard lights cut out for a few seconds. Sometimes the headlights flicker (mostly notice it when stopped so not sure how often). Sometimes only the "mr" light comes on. Sometimes only the radio cuts out. Sometimes I just hear a pop in the sound system. The dealer says they couldn't reproduce it and just my luck that day seemed to be one of the days when this wouldn't happen. This happens sometimes 5-10 times during my 15-20 minute commute home at night.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Tks, Wes.

definitely sounds like a short. if it ONLY happens with the maintenance required light then i would have the dealer look again at that branch of the circuit and make sure it's all good. and perhaps the dimmer switch is somehow related since it goes to all the dash lights.
you're sure that's the only time it happens?
SSTS

There are times when one of the symptoms appears without the maintenance required light turning on. I should for clarity add that this is not a situation where I need to reset the light. It is off except when it chooses to pop on briefly. This morning on my way to work I only experience a symptom once and it was only the radio cutting out for a few seconds. You can imagine how distracting this can get.
I'd just get rid of it because the cost of fixing a problem like that could be extreme, given the time it might take to find the problem and the labor involved in fixing it. Sure, it may turn out to be simple, but who knows? And it could cause a fire.
I would just bring it back to the dealer and let them keep it for a few days. its bound to comeup again. Its a problem thats best suited to them. Tracking down a glitch like this can be a pain untill whatever is causing it completly fails

When my car kept blowing the window fuses (which was never officially repaired, BTW and could come back any time) the dealer said if not for warranty it would costs $$$$ to find the problem because it's so complex.
I know this is from a while ago so I hope someone is still subscribed to avoid a redundant thread. Mine is doing almost the same thing. Maint light flickers along with the tach and speedo and the radio cuts out. Super random though, had it happen when:
1.going around a corner at 20 under slight accelerating after about 15 min of driving
2.decelerating from 60 getting off the highway after about the same amount of time
3. Sitting at lights can hear popping from the radio but no lights or gauge fluctuations
Whats strange is that I had this happen a few weeks ago and pulled codes for the pressure switch and trans fault so I replaced it and it seemed to go away for about a week before it started doing it again. Not sure if it helps but that's whats up. I have no codes at this point so I don't think its related but who knows....

sounds like the same type problem the 99s have, but the rest of us are potential candidates for same part failure
the ignition switch back side- the replacable electrical contact part-fails.
99s got a recall for 1 replacement then on the owner the next 3 times it fails in the cars life~
no reason to think later years dont suffer the same problem, just not as many
try wiggling the key with car running but parked- does it act up?
for under 50 bucks I would start there (dealer or aftermarket are ok for part)
along with cking for loose wires
Ck our DIY for help on the project
