Dash Clock Light Out
#48
while I was in RadioShack, I was half debating to buy a bunch of LED's and do the whole dash today (its a rainy day here) but said screw it because I didn't know what would be involved or how many I needed, then I find thread after thread on this information. .. I hope its a cold winter lol

I did this over the weekend. Took me 20 minutes. Thank you Acurazine!!! The dealer had told me "you can't replace the bulb - you need to replace the whole clock - you're looking at about $125". So, after driving around for 18 months without a clock light, I looked it up on here. I found the part for $2 (shipping and handling another $9) and popped it in. I didn't remove the whole bezel - I pulled it back and actually removed the clock using a little 3" long screwdriver. These DIY forums are very, very helpful.
thanks again!

I just replaced my clock light using the factory part, so the brightness does match the climate control screen. Taking the dash out takes a bit of time, and I used a butter knife wrapped once in a towel to protect from scrapes and gashes. Run your finger in the gap to feel where the clips are and use the knife to pop the clips out.
In the process of replacing the clock light the select light went out! I went to radio shack and bought the "micro lamp" thats pictured in the beginning of this thread. Turns out the lamp is dimmer if used with the clock because the lamp is physically smaller than the stock lamp. The Shack does sell a slightly larger lamp that looks to be an exact fit for the clock. The lager lamp is very close to the same part number, and looks identical, except for it being a bit bigger. The clock lamp size cannot be interchanged with the "select/reset" lamps, as it is TOO big. You must use the "micro lamp". The stock "select/reset" lamps have small blue colored rubber sleeves that fit right over the bulb, so color matching is achieved. The only issue I ran into is that the radio shack micro lamp was a bit dimmer than the one stock bulb that was still working behind my reset button. To fix the problem I replaced the stock bulb (which was probably on its way out anyway) with the second micro lamp you get with the 2 pack from the shack. Now both "select/reset" lamps are the exact same color and brightness, and furthermore it matches the entire dash, or appears to anyway.
Thanks to this thread I did it all by myself!! Look mom!

Thanks for the DIY. Successfully changed the bulb today. It was more difficult than removing the front bumper. Patience in removing and fitting the dash is required. No need to remove climate control knobs.

Mine has been out since I bought it 2 years ago. for the longest time I didn't even think the clock was even able to light up. lol. Until I saw someone elses lit I was like WTF. So yeah...replaced it for about $2.50. haha

I just changed my clock light in about 30mins start to finish. with the exact bulb with part number. It lights up now! and no other bulbs were burnt out in the process. The only problem (I think) is that the bulb doesnt shine as bright as the climate control or the radio. Is this what it's supposed to do? Seeing since this is the first time I have EVER seen my clock light on since buying it. I have no idea how it's controlled, If there is a way to control it.

I just replaced my clock light . . . used a butter knife wrapped once in a towel
It’s a tough nylon tool that’s used to take apart instrument clusters and interior trim. About $6.

Harbor Freight sells a set of nylon prying tools with different types of tips for less than $8. Very useful for things like this.

The bulb in the clock is called a Neo Wedge bulb and can be bought from superbrightleds.com.
ive used these bulbs alot in 2nd gen integras and they are really bright. the bulbs are used in the buttons on bezel in the integra. i use the super white 3mm LEDs for these. notice how bright the hazard and fog switch light up?
i would highly recommend using a LEDs over the OEM filament type bulb that will most definitely burn out again. i also HIGHLY suggest using a LED only from superbrightleds.com as i tried the cheepo from ebay and had to take my whole dash apart after a week.
the only question what size neo wedge is used in the TL/CL clock. if someone could compare the size to an object or a button in the car and post the pic i could see if i have an extra 3mm laying around to compare

thanks for Anachostic & Pshanie for the details pics, this is still a very helpful DIY. I agree with Pshaine just buy the OEM parts, in addition to the dash clock light, I replaced 7 other mini light bulbs around the dash, pulling out the dash completely was very helpful.
Using online Acura part estore, you can easiler find the correct mini bulbs.
Here is the path from the Acura estore web site.
parts catalog / ELECTRICAL / EXHAUST / HEATER / FUEL / SWITCH
Total spending for all bulbs < $30.00, well worth it...

Just got my TL. Clock light out. I will follow the helpful tutorial here. My input to the process: While your in there, it makes sense to replace everything at once. All bulbs and cabin filter (if that is in same area). Really. They everything is bright. Same bright.

When driving at night, I am unable to read my outside temperature and my odometer as they don't illuminate any more. The light that tells you what gear you're in on the dash doesn't work either.
Would a similar fix of removing my dash and replacing bulbs work in this situation? The gauges all work and the numbers are right they just don't illuminate at night.
