Question D4 Indicator lamp out

My 99 TL, 170K mi, D4 indicator lamp is out. I bought a lamp from Honda and took my instrument cluster out to change it. There is no access to the bulb that I can see. The back of the circuit board has lots of indicator lamps that screw in, but there is nothing for the transmission indicator lamps. To go further into the board, it looks like the rivets for the tach would have to be unsoldered and drilled out, then the tach lifted out from the front. I gave up since I didn't want to possibly wreck the cluster by guessing wrong on how to change the lamp. I saw an excellent post on changing the lamp, but it showed a different board that had the twist lock lamps right on the back of the board, where mine are not twist lock and are buried in the cluster.
Has anyone changed the Gen 2 transmission indicator lamps?
Thanks

There is nothing to unsolder. The 3 gauges (4 motors) need to be removed. To do that there are 2 tabs on the back of each motor on the board that you bend straight up. They are what holds the gauges/motors to the circuit board. Once those are pulled up they pull straight up. Then you separate the white piece that surrounds the circuit board and you will have access to them.

This is from a 00 but it still comes apart the same. Sorry for the bad pics, was in a hurry.

The place where the metal tabs are bent over

Thanks, your post was spot-on. It worked perfectly. I don't think anyone would dare to try this unless they already knew it worked.

Hey Patgard, keep your fingers crossed that the "D4" indicator lamp does not flash when it comes back to life. On the '99 models, this would indicate a possible tranny problem.
