Cruise Control Problem

I have an 2003 TL type S. The cruise control quit working today. The switch on the dash has a green light but the buttons on the sterring wheel don't seem to do anything. Any Idea of what to check? Or What migt be wrong?

Check your brake lights. Do they work?

remove the 4 bolts holding the plastic engine cover on- remove cover
look at the throttle assembly- one cable is throttle, the other cruise control

Someone here had the cruise cable somehow jump off its roller (you will see)
and jam with the throttle open ---oooops
Dirt or lack of lubrication or??? wierd things happen
Check out the cables first

Two guess, the set/accel switch on the steering wheel is bad or the cable reel (also in the steering wheel is bad). The cable reel is a commutator that provides electrical connection of the air bag, horn, stereo, and cruise control to the steering coloumn.

Two more guess (forgot), the brake switch (as others suggested) and the cancel switch both being electrically closed. The brake switch is adjustable on most Acura/Honda's if the switch plunger clearance is not correct.

Mine does that too sometimes. You have to push the brake back upwards with your foot under it. The cruise control switch gets tripped because sometimes the brake pedal sits too low. Try that and see if it works.

I would look at the mounting for your switch runner-
either the return spring is messed up (giant feet???) or the switch itself can get loose, check it out, and stop using the nascar e-brake method of- lift brake pedal with foot lol

Had cruise failure on another vehicle once. ECM indicated speed sensor failure. If it was that you would most likely have a chk eng. light w/ code set though.
