Cruise Control "Clunk"

Hey All,

The other night I was driving home on the expressway and had the cruise control on and it was working fine. I hit the cancel button and heard a minor clunking, not clicking sound coming from the passenger side.

The cruise seems to be working fine, but every time I dis-engage it (brake or cancel button) I hear this clunk sound. I'm worried it is going to fail, eventually. Any ideas?

ck out the cruise box on passenger side- make sure cable is operating freely

Some have a problem with cable mechanism at the TB, cable gets loose and sticks or otherwise causes problems
Remove plastic engine cover and have a look

Does it do it if you release the throttle manually (no cruise control)? Maybe you're noticing it only when using cc because it releases abruptly. Chk. motor mounts.

Nope, I tried this several times manually after reading your post. But thanks for the suggestion!

Reviving this thread from the dead as I'm hearing this "clunk/thump" when canceling cruise control or turning off cruise control by pressing on the brakes. This "clunk/thump" seems to be coming from the passenger side. I've always thought it came from the passenger rear, but i don't believe there is any mechanisms that controls the cruise from back there. I checked the box, and everything seems to be working fine. Easy for cables to move. A little dusty, so i dusted it off but sound is still there.

The sound is not there when simply letting the accelerator go from a cruise or acceleration, only when canceling cruise!

Cruise works just fine, im just annoyed as it just recently started (about couple months ago).

tried removing the cable from the TB end?
shoot some wd, silicone or deep creep thru the cable till it washes out the other end (have rag ready)

do the same to throttle cable
clean and lube the throttle return springs while you are there

harbor freight or bicycle shops have a `cable oiler tool` $3 makes it easy
