a couple of minor annoying problems
a couple of minor annoying problems
Before I go on with my post, I did a search on both subjects and got some possible useful information but still unsure.
Problem #1....some of you may have read my post about my nightmare 7 hour brake job...anyway, the new Rotoras are great, car stops smoothly (still in the break-in period) and it drives as it should. Since then I have developed a clunking noise near the right front passenger side. I took a lug wrench to double check and tighten the lugs ont he wheels thinking the rotor might be moving around (I didn't reinstall those damned screws). It doesn't do it all the time over every bump just every so often, sometimes when I turn. It sounds like something is loose. I doubt I left the 4 caliper bolts loose when I did the front brakes; I'm just wondering what it is. I also sprayed both rotors down each side with brake clean before I installed them to get that coating off. (one post attributed the noise to tacky pads on the coating). I just find it odd that it is just now doing this. I may take off the pass. wheel and re-tighten the caliper bolts. I don't know what else to do.
Problem # 2.....I paid the dealer 40 damned dollars to stick a piece of tape on my rattling sunroof. Bear in mind I used to work there and got the "hookup" on prices but not now after employee turnover.....needless to say I'm pissed and will never take it back there again after they charge $40 for a 2 second job that didn't fix it. This is a TSB for the problem and not only did it not fix it, it made it worse!!!! It used to only rattle when I had the shade open, now it rattles with it closed too. I have read that there's no decent fix for this. Is there not some 3M foam insulation or something that I can cram in there around the entire sunroof frame? I also have a slight rattle coming from the rear window where the radio antenna is....they wanted to remove the decklid and charge me $100+...I told them forget it. I will now take my car to the independent shop that specializes in Hondas here.....and they treated me well when I had my Civic. I'm thinking about taking the car back to the dealer and telling them its a "come back" and they need to do whatever possible to fix it at THEIR cost this time, even if it's put a new sunroof assy. in.....we gave tons of crap away on misdiagnosis when I worked there...charged $20 to fix a small problem, turned out to be a $400 problem and we had to eat it since we didn't correcly diagnose it the 1st time.....I'm about to play that game. Any ideas on what to do?

Update on # 1. Just test drove the car again.....found out that when I am backing up and I apply the brakes, I hear this clunking sound as the pads hit the rotor I guess (each time I hit the brakes it does it). I need to check the pass. side front brake assy. to see if there's something loose. The car drives fine otherwise. Anything serious or just some loose caliper bolts? The pads fit 1 way into the frame and upon installing the caliper and pumping the pressure into them, they should all conform together like the driver side. I hope I'm not tearing up anything in the meantime before I get a chance to look at it.
Problem # 1 you need to take the wheel off and double check that every thing is tight.
Problem #2. The tape DOES work, if thats the problem its put on for. If there is a problem with the seal, or the frame itself or the sunshade, then the tape isnt for that and they would have t solve the problem. I would not wedge any thing in there like foam tape. Odds are it wont seal right then and you will have wind noise and leaks. Id either A figure it out myself, or B bring it back tot he dealer and sit down with them before hand talk it out.

For problem 2, take it to another dealership that knows what they are doing. Same issue for me, taken care of under my CPO agreement. I believe it happened to the previous owner in the first 5K miles, but the tape wore out I guess. No problems since. I also use prestone silicone spray to keep the gliders from causing friction..slowing the closing/opening of sunroof. Works great for the window tracks too!! Lasts about 6 months per spraying.
