Cost Estimate for rear bumper body kit work?
Cost Estimate for rear bumper body kit work?
Hi, kinda new here.
Recently purchased a used 2000 tl, engine runs fine and has a replaced trans. Everything internal and electronics work fine.
One thing though--the previous owner got into a minor fender bender and was rear-ended. The frame was not compromised, but the rear bumper is dented and the passenger side taillight is a tad slanted as a result. (Still works fine though).
Most importantly, the steel bar (that holds the screws that hold the bumper) under the rear bumper is a bit bent, and as a result the screws do not go in and the bumper feels "loose", but not loose enough to fall off or anything. It just bends under pressure, like if I press down on it.
This hasn't been a major issue for me, and I do not worry too much about cosmetics, but I do plan on getting it fixed soon.
So I just a few questions:
1. The passenger side taillight has a small chip in it, revealing a tiny hole, which I am worried will let moisture into the fixture. Is there a cheap/quick temporary fix for this until I can bring it into a shop?
2. Can anybody help estimate how much this would cost? I'm not very experienced with body kit work. The rear bumper needs to be replaced (and painted?) and the metal bar under it has to be straightened/possibly replaced. also, the passenger side taillight cover needs to be replaced.
Thanks

A pic of the damage would really help to visualize the actual damage better.
For the tail-light, a quality tape will temporarily seal out water. If it's a small crack, epoxy would work. Some auto parts stores sell a "red" repair tape to better blend with the lens. Is the metal surrounding the tail-lamp damaged ?
The estimate to restore the car to original will vary, depending on the overall quality desired. I'd suggest getting a couple of estimates. Chances are that if it's only minor superficial damage, you may find a shop able to straighten the re-inforcing beam along with the bumper if not too bad. If all new parts are necessary, you may want to consider recycled used parts from a '99-'03 TL donor.
