Clock Backlight?

Hi
Just got a 2002 TL 3.2 Type-S, love it! The only thing I have found wrong is that the backlight on the clock is out. Is that a matter of replacing the LED on it? The clock works fine, I just can't see it at night.

If it is a matter of replacing the light, how hard is it to replace the light? Does it require soldering or anything?

Thanks,
iamteeg

You don't have to remove the dash. It's not too bad.

Dashboard removal is not necessary. Remove the two screws above the instrument cluster and go from there. Very easy to do.

In my 1999 Acura TL 3.2 someone on the blog suggested hitting the clock or around it will likely make it go back on. I tried it and it worked. Also, the same trick worked for the gear shifter lights. Now I need to find out how to get my parking brake indicator light to be fixed. Anyone?

Yeah mine was out for 2 or 3 years. Then i hit a huge bump in the road, HARD thankfully on my stockies and my clock and my D5 light worked again immediately so try hitting it first.

I love that I came here to find out about my suddenly dark shifter lights and the basic advice is to just hit it. Will try that.

Astonishingly, moderately striking the dashboard directly above the clock on my '99 TL made the backlight work again after it went out about two weeks ago - been working perfectly for 10 days now. Last summer I also replaced ~ 6 instrument panel lights after removing the instrument cluster - also replaced the electronic module that displays the gear selected in the sport shift mode. In the last month or so I have noticed the speedo backlight has been dim on the left and top side of the gauge. Figured why not try the strike the dashboard approach again - amazingly it worked with one thump on the dash directly above the speedo - the lights came back on instantly and have stayed on (when the headlights are turned on only - that is when the backlights are activated). Never thought I would be posting this to fix multiple backlight issues - but it works!
