Cleaning intake
Cleaning intake
I am cleaning the intake because I am doing valve cover gaskets. Now that I am finished with that gaskets, I want to clean the intake throughly. Its alot of crud, crap and junk in that intake. Do I leave the throttle body on to clean the intake or take it off? What kind of wire brush should I use or am I supposed to use a wire brush. How did you clean yours?
see diy: thermoblock install and egr cleaning
yes remove TB -you will be flipping manifold in many directions during rinse
remove sensors too
get 4 cans carb cleaner and a wire coat hanger, NOT A WIRE BRUSH
a length of sturdy wire= wire coat/shirt hanger- to poke `thru the length of the manifold`
the main egr passage that feeds the ports at each cylinder and each port
a small screwdriver or drill bit helps on ports
soften and poke, soften and poke
get it as clean/clear as possible but dont sweat perfection,,it gets dirty again
get 2 new TB spacer gaskets, one for each side
and 1 IACV cover gasket in case it tears- clean iacv rod= for idle air control

Forget I posted the valve cover gasket question. You know, i took my intake manifold to a machine shop to have it cleaned thoroughly. When I took it off, the carb cleaner I used didn't really clean the way I wanted. So I called a machine shop and they did it for 50 bucks. Car rides so much smoother.
getting that main egr passage clean is critical
a machine shop would have a tool, a long flex rod with a barbed edge
so it scrapes crud off as its pushed thru
may have run it thru the solvent tank too, which is ideal
