clanking noise front left
clanking noise front left
I have a strange metal on metal clanking noise that happens only when braking at slow speeds and then again when accelerating from a stop. It almost seems like the brake pads shifting in the calipers, but I have inspected them 3 times and found no evidence if movement. Also when I hit bump while braking the noise will happen.
I do have Comptech sways, but the front seems okay.
I have looked around under the front left several times and found nothing abnormal. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. The noise is progressively getting worse with time.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Iggy

does it sound almost like a poppin metal sound right under the driverside cuz same like me i thought it was my engin mount goin out but it was that the bolt end of the sway bar was loose. it make look find and dande but wat u got to do is torque down everything dat u installed yourself.
I got the same problem on my 99TL and I had my rotors and pads replaced. It turned out that the pads were installed the wrong way. One of the pads have a metal thingy sticking (i don't what it is called) but it should have been installed at the back side of the caliper. It was installed in the front side that's why I hear a clanking noise (front driver side) every time I hit the brake. Like you said, I do hear it also when braking on low speed and specially when you're near a wall. Now I don't hear it anymore.
Thanks guys,
I have checked and double checked everything with no luck!
Man this noise is driving me NUTS. I'm on my third tranny, is it possibly axle tranny related?

i know u said u checked your anti sway bar but double check the linkage. i had a similar noise that got progressivly worse. i double checked a thousand times over befor i relized that it was the front left anti sway bar linkage that had worn and eventually broke loose from the mount. (the linkage that connects the the anti sway bar to the lower a arm) hope u get it fixed
How do you check the end link, I have the same clunk sound when making a big slow right turn - a metal on metal popping sound. Sometimes I can feel the pop from the brake pad. Double checked and re-torque CT sway bar - no luck.
I found out that my CT bracket is loose and swaybar was hitting the frame. Tighten all four bolts on brackets and the clunk is gone. The best solution acccording to CT is to use self locking bolts.
