Check Engine & SRS lights on - Reset manually? (codes included)
So first let me start that I love this forum and my 2000 Acura TL. The forum has saved me thousands of dollars and helped me understand my car and how to fix it myself when I can, or when to take it to a professional. Here is my dilemna:
-2000 Midnight Blue Acura TL, navigation, 6 disc change and full sport trim
-199,980 miles and counting
It has had battery cable corrosion issues over its life, but it came to a head.
-started sputtering
-died
-replaced battery
-died again on highway 1 hour later with lights going out first, then dash lights flickering
-dealer replaced bad alternator
-upon receiving the car, it was noticed that the interior gauges did not work
-dealer replaced bad fuse relay
Now, the check engine light is on and also the SRS. They want to charge the $150+ minimum to diagnose it.
I was wondering if I can save the money and simply reset it myself. Here are the codes:
P1705
P1457
P0141
P1298
Even though having recent electrical work done, it seems fine and I have been driving it for the last couple of weeks and would like to reset them if possible. The car (nicknamed 'Lux') has treated me well, but the end is in sight and I have already sunk $1000 into it just to keep it running.
I know there are a few threads out there to reset a SRS light on an old integra, but not tried it yet. I am wondering if there is some thought on if there is a way to manually reset the check engine light and SRS for this model specifically or other driving/repair concerns
Thanks ALL
Tom

see the diy section for SRS reset--especially after electrical work its often a false code.
diy section has code decoder, or google them- `acura fault code P7 blah blah`
but,,, codes are clues= not diagnostic in themself!!!
you can clear the ecu codes by pulling the CLOCK fuse on passenger end of dash for a minute,,~the secret backup power for the ecu~
Acura makes a 20$ kit with neg batt cable and several small ground cables from engine to frame,,makes a huge differance in how the car runs when its grounded!

Battery Cable reset and DIY SRS light worked!!
Thanks guys, pulling the negative battery cable reset the check engine light, and the DIY SRS reset worked like a charm. That is $150 in my pocket for 15 minutes work!! FYI, for an 2000 Aacura TL, there are a few yellow cable ends, but take the smaller one which looks like the DIY one and that should do the trick
