Fuel Sender Fix
Fuel Sender Fix
1999 TL3.2 My fuel sender was acting up, not accurate and would go from 3/4 to 1/4 tank in a day. I managed to get it working perfectly again for 0$$$.
1. remove fuel sender from car. It is located under a hatch in the trunk. Removal was very easy. It is a unit complete with the fuel pump.
2. On the side of the unit is a flat variable resistor that give the fuel level. 3 things to do:
a) Bend the sliding contact slight so it puts more pressure on the flat resistor.
b) polish the flat resistor surface with 600 wet/dry. Flip the W/D over and polish the sliding contact.
c) clean surfaces well with contact cleaner.
Sorry no pics but it becomes obvious once you look at it.
You can test this with a multimeter before you re-install. The range on mine was (I recall) 5 ohms to 125 ohms and should change smoothly. Some dielectric grease in the electrical connector is a good idea too.
Hope this helps. Chris.
