Check Engine Light after Catalytic convertor change
Check Engine Light after Catalytic convertor change
In the past 6 months I had changed my catalytic convertor on my 99 TL becuase I was getting the check engine signal. I had the option of getting the standard honda part or save some money and go with a "higher" performance cat for a little less...so i chose the cost effective option. Right after the cat was changed the light went away for about a week and then came back on. I took it back to the mechanic and he checked the computer and it was the cat flow problem again. So he kept it for a couple of days tweaked the computer, and test drove the car. The light went away for a couple of days...since then the mechanic has not been available and impossibe to contact(he has disappeared). I am coming up on my yearly emmissions test and need to get the cat flow problem fixed. I have taken my car to autozone and had them check the computer and it confirms that i hace flow issue with my cat. I am planning to buy a new OEM Cat and put it in...but before i do that...any suggestions?
some details on my TL...It has 190K on it. I bought the car brand new. No real problems till now.

Its possible that the cat he claimed to install wasnt that good of one, and has failed. Its also possible that the 02 sensor is bad. I would find an exhaust shop and let them inspect it and tell them what you have done to the car.
Also you can contact our vendor excelerate. He sells the random tech cat. its a performance cat, but a high quality unit and no one has had issues with it.

I had replaced the O2 sensor a couple months before the cat, so hopefully that is not the issue.
I spent about $220 on the cat, so i was under the impression I was getting a good cat.
Well let me take the car in and scan the computer. I will post the code number once i get it. Also, i will see if i can get an exhaust shop to check my car.
How much does a random tech cat run?
I will post my findings this weekend.

Sorry guys, for not responding sooner. My TL is in the shop. Mainly for a transmission rebuild. Since the car is in the shop, I have decided to change out the cat again. My options are dealer ($800), DEC ($250), and Bosal ($250). These are part costs...dealer wanted $1100 totat for the cat service. Both aftermarket catalytic convertors state to meet the OBII requirements. has any one used one of these brands and were able to keep the CEL off? Even Better, Do you all now where i can get a better deal on a Honda Cat?
