Check engine light on 03 type s
Hello,
My check engine (picture of an engine) light went on recently on my 03 tl type s. I checked the book and they said it has something to do with the emissions. Brought it to autozone who's computer said it's either the gas cap, vacuum hoses, or soleniod. I replaced the gas cap and the light is still on. Anybody have the same experience - if so do you know what the fix is? Thanks!

I've been doing some research on this through the website and realized that I have the same "P code" that includes either the gas cap, evap system on gas tank, or vacuum hoses. Eventually the light went off after replacing the gas cap but now there is a loud ticking sound coming from the gas tank area. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I'm guessing changing the evap cannister & valve per the DIY on this site should take care of this? Thanks....

For future reference next time yo have a CEL and attempt to fix it reset the ecu to shut the light off to know if it fixes it.
As for the ticking, nothing is wrong. The sound is normal. If it really bothers you you can replace the canister.

try replacing the evap system....it worked 4 me. originally thought i had to replace the cat converter but turns out it was the evaporator system....the black box near the exhaust

I recently have this symptom . After resetting the CEL, I have then replaced the gas cap. Light came back on yesterday.. ![Why Me](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/whyme.gif)
What else could it be? The Evap. system ( black box)?

Hi All :
After blindly fixing problems without knowing/confirming the codes caused me to spend over $200 for potentially nothing. You need to read the current code(s) and fix what the fault code indicates. Doing it by guess work is a complete waste of time.
Trust me, I've been there done that !

I had a CEL light on a few weeks ago, code said evaporative system leak. Change the gas cap, thinking well my car has over 200k miles on it with original gas cap, good chance it might be bad. Cleared the code, it came back 35 miles later. This time i used the smoke machine and found the smoke came out from the seam of the evaporative canister shut off valve. It was like $48 or so in dealer stock, no body else carry it. Easy to put it in, i drove for about 400 miles now, the light didn't come back on yet.

Mine only have 72,300 miles.. Code came up 1546 and it have something to do with the Evaporator leak per Auto Zone.
Is that valve easy to access on the canister? Can you pin point me if not too much trouble?

The valve is easy to get to it, only 2 screws hold it in, the problem is they are rusted baddly, so i ended up pull drop the canister down, using a pair of vise grip to break loose the screws, i went back with new screws. You best bet is to bring it to a shop that has a smoke test, it took less than 5 minutes to find out where the leak is, you don't want just replacing part that are still goods.

True.. Alternative would be taking it to the dealer and they are going to charge me an arm and leg. I don't mine giving the valve a try since is cheaper route. Tkx.
Most likely is the dang Chevron pump failure caused me over flow 4 gallons of gas onto the ground in April.
