I recently purchased a 1999 3.2tl, it has 88k miles. The CEL light has come on, I took it to autozone, they pulled the codes PO 1491 (manufacturer aux emissions) and PO 420 (catalytic converter). I've searched for those codes and found 1 thread for 1491 and nothing for the 420 code.

The TCS light also comes on consistently after the car has been in gear for around 90 seconds. It is driving fine, the only change I've noticed is a rattle sound when I first start the car and it's cold, this sound goes away when warmed up.

I've recently got a new set of tires that roughly coincided to the TCS light coming on.

I'm looking for any advice as to how to proceed and not blow a lot of money at the dealership. Thanks

 

You need a new cat, get one cheap off ebay or get a high-flow cat from our vender Excelerate.

 

The rattling sound, like rocks in a coffee can is a tell tale sign that your cats are bad. Crawl under the car and whack the cat with a rubber mallet; pretty sure you'll here the same noise.

Does anyone know if the P0420 code would make these lights stay on whenever I use the remote start from my alarm. Just curious b/c I never had this problem till I had this code show up.
