It could be caused by many different things.

here's an easy one to check. Do you have another Honda or Acura key on your keyring? If so, another key with the built-in immobilizer feature can interfere with your ignition system. There is a caution about this in the TL owner's manual.

I had stalling problems with my 1999 TL until I removed a Honda key from my key ring.

Yes, the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) can cause this problem. But you wouldn't normally need to replace it. You would instead clean it since the valve can get sticky, There's a great thread somewhere on Acurazine on how to do this yourself but it is a little bit involved. I had my mechanic clean this when I was trying to track down the stalling problem on my TL.

The ignition switch is another possibility. There was actually a recall on the ignition switch for the second generation TLs. My 1999 TL had this replaced before I purchased it. If you're not the original owner of your car, you can call Acura or check the Owner Link to see if your car is covered by the recall.

Spark plugs can be another possibility.

The dealer should have access to that information. YOu can also call a toll-free national Acura number to check on that. Another option is to register your car online with Acura to check on all the recall items.

Yes, it's a possibility.

Here's another thing to look for. If the car doesn't start initially, look for the flashing green key symbol on the dash. If you see that, it might indicate that the immobilizer system is preventing the car from starting.

Good Luck!

the immobilizer keys can be damaged if they get wet or if they get too hot. It might be that your key is acting up. You might want to get a replacement and try that since it's not a bad idea to have a spare anyway. But be aware that the keys are not cheap and that you may need to get it from an Acura dealership.

Search the forum for "spare key" for more information.

What year is this car? If it is a 1999 they had some ignition switch recalls, you might be covered for free. They symptoms of that were the car stalling while driving.

Register with owner link and that will tell you for sure if you are covered or not. Dealers may just tell you that you aren't to get you to pay... there are a lot of Nalley Acuras out there.
