Car doesnt start...its really cold outside

Right now I just went to move my car and it wouldnt start, It was weak, so I gave it some gas and it fired up, but if i let off the gas it dies. Battery seems fine, I just replaced it this summer.

This afternoon the car drove just fine. Right now it's nighttime so the temps dropped to -5 degrees.

anyone know what could be wrong?

No CEL, no warning lights. The car starts up fine, no clicking or weakness, it just dies right after it starts up lol.

I have to go to work so I just started it, and held the gas to 1k to keep it alive for about 4-5 minutes and now it's running fine. I guess it had to warm up. The temp is -7 right now.

Does anyone know what could be wrong? It dies when the engine is cold, during extreme cold. Now that it is warmed up it runs fine again. Thanks.

You might have some water in the gas which turns to ice and blocks the line? Just a guess. If so, some dry gas will fix the problem.

The IACV may be a little frozen or the TPS sensor may not be reading correct?? throw some heat in the gas and see if it helps.

Thanks for the responses, what do u mean by throw some heat in the gas?

I bought some ISOHEET....Would that be a solution to the gas line possibility? I'm gonna use it anyways

Starter-Definitely NOT

Alternator-wrong again..

probably the oil is so cold the motor is having a hard time moving it, you should get a engine block heater if the other heat doesn't help and the IACV and TPS are working correctly

i think it is a sensor problem or a vaccum leak......

there have been a few nights where the temp here was -20 and my CLS started right up even though it took a slightly longer crank time...

just out of curosity is your battery an acura one?

plugged egr port ? carbon build up on spark plugs giving it a week spark ?

HEAT is like some kind of additive that wont let gas freeze. but what ppl dont know is that gas wont freeze.

Probl. just prevents any moisture in the fuel lines from freezing, not the gas.

Did you ever figure out what was happening? It doesnt get that cold here but it seems like when its under 30 degrees here, my car has a hard time starting up. When its warm my car doesnt hesitate hardly at all. One morning I could barely get the car to start up and i had to rev the engine to keep it up and running. While driving the car to work that morning, i had a rough idle when i stopped. Once i got to work i turned the car off and turned it back on and of course it started up without any type of hesitation. I just changed the battery last year and actually had it check recently and it was fine. Any thoughts?

Atlanta doesnt get anywhere near as cold as it does up north so i figured that there would be a lot more people experiencing this if it was the oil being too cold. Is this fairly common?
