any led should be fine really - what i would do personally is take an led from an old floppy drive (as they are usually square)
your going to have to match up the positive and negative leads the way the old one was installed (you can tell by which one is attached to the "cup" inside)
or buy one from ebay (after matching up the dimensions, but it shouldn't matter)

oh, and i would check the solder joints on the one in there right now.
sometimes solder joints become "dry" over time meaning the solder no longer is in contact with the led leads...
if you diy replace it your going to need to solder it.
