auto tensioner pin won't come out

I have installed my timing belt and now it's time to pull the pin out of the auto tensioner but the problem is that as hard as I yank on it , it wont' come out. I have heard some people say to to use the battery tie down to relieve tension from the auto tensioner to do this, but my car does not have any of the battery tie downs so this isn't possible. Is there a trick to getting the pin out of the new tensioner without breaking it? Thanks in advance.

Yes, there is a trick. You can't just pull it out with your fingers. Stick a screwdriver over it with anything about 3/4 raised on the other end for the crewdriver to rest on, and yank it out quickly, dont do it slow. I used a short socket. battery tie down is not really for removing the pin, it is for removing the hydraulic tensioner.

Sorry I don't quite understand what you mean. So where do I stick the screwdriver?

My tensioner has the " grenade pin " type of pin and not the clamp type. I think the screwdriver is used to remove the clamp type of pin.

The pin has the loop hole at the end, put the screwdriver through the loop hole. When you do it you will know what I mean. You cant pry it out without enough leverage on the other end, so rest the tip of the screwdrive on something to raise it.

So put the handle part of the screwdriver through the pin loop?

The metal rod part of the screw driver will go thru the loop hole. you will hold the handle and pull it out, prying in a way. It will be hard for you to pull it out that far if you dont have the tip of the screw drive rest on something high; just like pull up a long nail, you will need to have something raised higher on the surface for the tip of the fork to rest on. The thing is you need to pull it out straight, so the highest possible the tip can rest on is the better. otherwise the pulling action will make an arch moving action, that wont be straight out.
