Brake lights stay on

the Brake lights on my 99 TL stay on as well as the dash lights even with the switch off. I checked all fuses and they are fine during this my horn relay also does not work....if I pull the fuse the lights go off. I noticed this when I went to start the car and the battery was dead. could it be an electrical short? I checked the brake light switch also and it seem to be fine. I am confused.

thanks

Try adjusting the micro switch for the brake lights. It's located underneath the dash on top of the brake pedal's arm. There should be some free play, otherwise the switch may be staying activated.

If adjusting the switch doesn't help, perhaps the switch is faulty and sticking ? Try a new one, can't be that expensive !!!

It appears that the 20A Stop fuse in the underhood panel and wiring to the switch has power, so logically the brake switch or sensor is causing the rear lights to stay on. Doublecheck the rear bulbs, sockets and wiring. But, if everything is doing it's job.....something within the circuit is not shutting the power off.

After hours of trouble shooting, I feel stupid and happen to notice that the rubber piece that pushes the brake light switch fell off causing the lights to stay on and drain the battery, silly me, got anew $9.00 part and problem solved. Thanks for taking the time to help. thanks
