Both Heated Seats Died

Both of my heated seats died at the exact same time.
So, I know it's not the seats themselves.
It's not the fuses, checked them.

Anybody know what relay controls the heated seats?
Any help would be appriciated.

I got the drivers seat repaired by the dealer once.
Now one kid can't go to college, I'd like to send the other one if I can.

Any help would be appreciated.
Bill

welcome to the board bill! i'm at work so i don't have my owner's manual in my hands right now but i believe the relay would be detailed in there if it's a single relay for both. i'll take a look when i get done today but maybe that will help in the meantime.

I dont have the manual by me either but im almost positive that there is a relay on the drivers side in the engine compartment relay box.

Last shot

I thought I'd give this one last shot.
Anybody know anything about the relays used to control the heated seats?
I'd love to buy the relays and pop them in myself, before I have to go to the dealer and get raped with some phony high priced fix.

I have the exact same problem Bill R reported (both the driver and the passenger seat warmers died). It's a 2000 3.2 TL, seat heaters rarely used (Seattle doesn't get that cold!) and only 56K miles on the car, and with both of 'em dead simultaneously, it doesn't seem like the heating element should be the problem.

I've never pulled a relay or fuse for the car so would appreciate detailed information about how one goes about replacing the relay (or fuse, or whatever it is). Page # from the manual, replacement part # -- that kind of granular detail is needed for this newbie!

I was quoted $420 to replace the drivers' side seat heater only -- I don't think so -- especially if there's a more elegant solution.

Thanks.

Relays are nothing special. Get the correct relay and pull the old one out and pop the new one in. Its just like replacing a large fuse.
Im not sure of the exact location because i dont have my manual here but its in teh small black relay box behind the master cyl under the hood

First, do your heated seat switches light up?

Yes, both driver's and passenger switches illuminate, in both positions (high and low).

Hi there, I'd love to have the diagram but I can't figure out for the life of me how to e-mail you privately. I've looked all over the site for options, clicked on your name, etc.

If you can tell me how to e-mail you I'll drop you a line post haste. Thanks again.

Hi Guys:
I have the same problem with email, even though I'm now a member.
I sent you an email message directly.
Hopefully the diagram will help.
I did find a diagram from somewhere that said it showed the relay, but when I pulled it and put in a known good one, I had the same problem.
So, hopefully yours will show the correct one.
Thanks, Bill

I have a 99 TL.
Does your diagram still apply exactly to the 99 TL?

I see that the diagram is for 02-03 Type S.

just like the above poster i suspect the problem is in the elements.

Yours if the passenger side is working is most likely the heated seat element that needs to be replaced. Its a common problem on the TL

Yeah mine work sometimes when they want to, and last time i tried them i smelled burning plastic or something so i just dont use them at all. Im lucky though, cause i live in a warm climate.

Theyre one of those things that are easier/less expensive to just say screw it than get it fixed. Although someone on here has a DIY if you do a search

The passenger doesn't have an element for the back.

passenger side only the bottom heats.

Drivers side sounds like you have a bad element.

You will either have to bring it in to be replaced, or to repair it yourself. There is a thread where a member soldiered in a new wire to make it work.
