Question Ball Joints - When do they fail?

At 54K miles, dealer said I had to replace my lower ball joints. This was surprising to me since it is only 54K miles and I have "normal" driving habits. I do have to drive in DC streets, and I did put TL-S rims on my TL-P, but I wouldn't think that should be too much of a factor.

Just wanted to see - how many miles others have gone before having to replace their ball joints, or if they've needed replacement at all?

Are they referring the lower ball joint as the 'knee' joint which can be used to adjust the castor angles? Of course the OEM ball joint can't be adjusted and as for this part I prefer after market parts. There is no hard and fast rule to say how soon to failure. Failure is only defined as out-of the spec. I replaced them with after market parts on my another Accord @150K but they have been on the margin for a very long time (sorry I don’t mean to quote experience from Accord but they are very similar in many aspects). Frankly there is no guarantee that the dealer will fix it and happy thereafter. See other alignment shops for second opinion.
