B Pillar Replacement Options

I have some very ugly B pillars and I was wondering the best way to fix the peeling paint, etc. I noticed "covers" on eBay, but I have a feeling those will be ugly and not work well. I am currently in the process of moving, so painting is not an option. I was wondering if anybody had a link to a site where I could buy some replacements?

Thank you,
Aaron

You wouldn't happen to know what the official part name is for the cover? I looked, but I could online find the interior pieces. Thank you

Yeah I also need to order some new ones mine are HORRIBLE. On a couple almost all the paint is gone. It just was not a high priority for me since it wasnt affecting mileage or life of the car but I think I am ready to fix them now because they are really ugly.

That's what I was going to do. A little sanding and a little paint and Voila! Good as new!

I have decided that I am going to paint mine. I believe I am going to try using the Krylon Fusion paint for plastic. I'll take some picture and let you guys know how it goes, but I'm currently in the process of moving from NC to Iowa so it'll be awhile.

Good luck with that. I'll be interested to see how they turn out.

Just wanted to see if there were any updates on painting B pillars. Mine are really starting to look horrible, and I would appreciate some advice on the grade(s) of sandpaper and paint used.

Thanks!

Here

Buy this paint: Wurth Satin Black Trim Spray Paint
and use 1500 grit sand paper. Looks just as new but with a little less shine then brand new.

My :
1500 is good to finish with, but you have to get all the prior layers of chipping off and smoothed over. Start with a 320 move to 600 and then the 1500. I recommend the 3X Brand papers at Home Depot, they are more expensive, but seriously worth it!!! They cut well and last for a long time!!! The cheaper stuff is really crappy... Trust me!

As for the shine, kick in for 3 cans of spray, a base prime grey (sand with the 1500 after it dries), the gloss black for plastics, and then a can of clear coat to make the shine and reflection deep and pretty. Might even wet sand the final clear coat and do a super hand polishing with some buffing compound. You might spend $40 for all the stuff, and spend a few hours on the DIY but compared to the $200+ you would spend on new ones...... Its a gimme with fantastic results!!!

OR - take it in to a paint shop and pay them X dollars to paint them for you, it should still be cheaper than buying new ones. My car is in the shop now, and Im having other work done, they're going to color match mine with the NBP - hope it looks as good as I picture

My I wouldnt use 1500 and then paint over it. 400-600 is more than enough. Paint will adhere to it better.

There's no real carbon fiber b pillar replacements are there? Just the trims that you can stick on your car? I bought my car with the stickers, and never bothered to check under them.... didn't really know much about cars back then, and I really needed the car... I dislike the fact that its a sticker, and want to remove, but the pilars are messed up! So the best deal would be to paint it yourself? Anyone know how much getting it painted professionally to match the car color would be? Does painting it yourself stand out against the oem color?

Just a tip...check out the DIY section in the main 2nd gen TL forum for instructions on various projects, the search feature also works very well for answers.

Check this thread out for removing the B pillars.

What interior plastic trim are you talking about?

Thanks for the instructions, they're perfect

The interior plastic trim I'm referring to are the door panels where they meet the window control assembly. There is separation from sun/heat damage. I wondered if there's a solution. Right now the yellow foam core is starting to show on one of the doors. Replacement part seems to be about $300.

Also the dashboard is getting wavy ripples despite my religious use of a sunshield.

There should be a DIY in the DIY section I referred to earlier, I know someone wrote one up, I'm not 100% they added it to the section. If it's not there just do a search for door fixes or something similar. It involved using gorilla glue, so i guess you could search thread posts in the 2nd gen for "gorilla glue".

Dash ripples are pretty much unavoidable and there is no fix for it that I know of except replacement.

just paint them. taking them off and putting them on takes the most time. and if ur moving, just do it after u move.. priorities.. lol

i repainted mine with gloss black rustoleum. wet sanded them first with i think 400 grit. they look ok, but much better than b4. i had planned to wetsand with 2000 and then polish to really make them gloss, but now i may just leave them as is.

When you say, 'rubbing compound', can you use wax or is there a rubbing compound product? I am painting mine today and would like to know what to use when I finish up.
