Avoid Goodyear Gatorback Belts

Avoid using goodyear gatorback serpentine belt.

I have a goodyear gatorback serpentine belt in less than 5 months all the groves inside are cracked. The groves are designed by one inch section, with gaps in between, to allow good circular bends on pulleys, which is good for inner bend. But, when the belt run through the tensioner, it is outter bend (roller on back of the belt), causing these one inch section design to peel off. Really bad design and poor quality.

And what exactly is your setup? I ran these belts for a season at a time on a 2005 Supercharged Acura TL (see garage link for mod list) that was running around 350whp and had no issues whatsoever. My issue was the idler and tensioner pullies always went out from being overspun.

Whats your current setup? Have you checked these pullies? And I dont mean...do they spin....because they can spin and still be bad. Experience taught me that one....after about $150 is tossed belts over a short period. But again..that wasnt the belt...more the pullies.

first time I've heard someone say something bad about them. I put them on my old car and had no issues. I also installed the Gatorback serpentine belt on my current car, it's been over a year and a half of daily driving, and I looked at it a few weeks ago and it was in good shape even though my idler pulley was bad

check your tensioner.

If it stays that way more than one season....you are not running enough powa! Additional mods needed!

Truely...I think the issue is a pulley issue for the OP...not a belt issue. I went through one set of pullies and one belt each year. They get overspun and the bearings start to not spin as freely as they should...causing the belt to heat and fail eventually. To the naked eye..the difference in spin was slight...but the new ones would spin freely...and the old ones would not so much. They would still spin...but you could feel a slight resistance in it. Soon as I replaced those...I was golden for the rest of the season. Popular issue with supercharged cars running good HP.
