AV6 Trans Fluid

Just got my AV6 installed (2007 w/58k miles) and was wondering if the DW1 fluid is still the fluid of choice for these trannies. I prefer a more positive shift and it seems the DW1 leans towards the softer side. Anyone with any experience in the area? Redline fluid still considered an option? Not sure what's in there now. The shop that did the swap for me identified the fluid only as "full synthetic", so I plan a 3 x 3 pretty soon.

Also, I noticed that when I placed the gear selector into SS mode, D5 remains lit (although I do also see the gear that I've selected). Can't recall if this is normal or not.

Finally, while in SS mode, the tranny shifts out of 1st gear prior to the red line (about 6700 RPM, I believe). With my previous tranny (a Jasper rebuilt unit that failed with about 110k on it), 1st gear held till I shifted, just like all the other gears. I know this wasn't the case with the factory tranny and was wondering if there's a setting somewhere or if this is internal to the tranny and can't be easily adjusted. Thanks for any info on these items.

If your shop put in "full synthetic", it's probably not the dw1. There are 4 or 5 full synthetics I know of (probably more) that meet and exceed honda's spec. Changing to redline racing and redline lightweight racing can give you a firmer, quicker shift, but it's really subtle. Neither of these fluids is recommended for honda. Read the "optimum percentage of redline racing" thread. Try 3q racing, followed by 3q lightweight racing. Going full race fluid can cause some shift issues. It's discussed in the % thread, and I thought it was b.s., but I experienced flare, which felt like trans slipping. It went away when I backed down to 2/3rds racing fluid compared to 90%+. I believe I have gotten 30,000 free miles on my original trans. (so far) I sold the car, but still service it, and no problems yet.
I'm running an aftermarket full synthetic in the 07 accord trans in my daughter's TL with great results so far.

A quick correction. When in SS mode, the trans does shift out fo first at the redline, not before. The original tranny shifted out of first at about 6200RPM I believe, but this one and the Jasper rebuilt (the torque converter failed on that one, I'm told) hold first right to the redline, then shift automatically to 2nd.

on the TL some years auto-shifted from 1-2 in SS while others let you actually drive the car.
maybe same type thing with yours in Auto mode with the alternate trans

anyway you don't need redline in 1st gear- dyno test show max torque- where you want to grab 2nd gear, is less than max rpm

Don't remember what mine does in D5 at full throttle low gears
I've gotten so old,,, vtec use is for emergency get it moving NOW in front of that looming semi on the freeway on-ramp only
When it was the preferred throttle application in years past~

only 99 lets you shift from 1-2 in ss mode
2000 1-2 is automatic in ss mode

That's how it works on my 2000 TL. Seems normal to me.

Only with the 4 Speedo you can manually shift from 1st to 2nd in SS.
All 5 speedos are automatic 1st to 2nd shifts in SS.

I believe he's saying he's shifting with Gate shifting because it's IMPOSSIBLE to shift 1st to 2nd with SS on a 5 Speed Unit be the original B7WA or AV6 since they are both controlled by the Same ECU and the ECU controls the shifting, not the trans. The difference in redline can be a lot things sometimes it will shift earlier and sometimes way past 7K it all depends on the load of the engine.

And D5 remains lit while in SS.
