Anyone replaced a 99+ TL transaxle before?

Hi guys, has anyone personally replaced a 99+ TL transaxle before? I have done my share of automatic transmission rebuilds/replacements, including front wheel drive transaxles before, but on American cars. My 03 TL-S scares me because it's foreign and has so many dinky little metric bolts.

My car is under warranty but I am looking into getting an aftermarket new or beefed up rebuilt trans out of pocket. The only things I need to know about replacing this trans myself are:

1. Can I just swap out the trans, plug in the wiring harness and go? Or does the powertrain control module need to be reprogrammed when the trans is replaced? I don't want to change the trans and find out the car won't run or drive until the dealer plugs in to the computer.

2. Is there anything peculiar about removing this transaxle that would be different from any other FWD trans?

I wish I had a service manual but it looks like one was never released. I appreciate the help!

Dinky metric bolts? the bolts honda uses are overkill.

Do a search. Myself and 1 other have replaced them.
If your under warranty why spend money out of pocket. If your having a whine, bring it back. Its not supposed to do that.

Yes its a direct plug and play. nothing special. (and you cant use a 99. you have to use a 200-2003)

And yes there is a factory service manual. Helms makes it.

Compared to stuff like 429 Fords, these cars are dinky! Everything is relative. I am going to purchase an aftermarket beefed up trans for the car. It's worth spending money out of pocket to not have to keep dealing with the dealer, I've had it. All of the remanned transmissions the dealer uses will be imperfect, I've read the hundreds of replies to posts complaining about the quality of them. Not worth my time to keep having more crappy transmissions put in.

U dint say the cars were dinky, you said the bolts were. From a engenering stand point the bolts used are all overkill. and in most cses as large or larger than what teh domestics use.
No one has come up with a beefed up 5 speed tranny that we know of.

And all the stuff you have read, if you had read it carefully you would have read that after Feb of 05 they have appearently solved the issue. As no one since then has had a failure. All teh posts were early on before the updates were applied to teh tranny.

Oh well its your money. If you feel like spending it instead of letting warranty taking care of it feel free.
