Anoying Ticking Under dash??

2000 TL-P

I noticed this ticking under drivers side dash about a year ago. It sometimes goes for a week or maybe just a day at a time then goes away for 2 months. As strange as it sounds, it actually does this and is damn annoying!
-----other details:
-Car starts strange, very delayed **(see video)
-It stops ticking only when a door is open
-Rate of ticking changes between delayed and rapid in no noticeable patter.
-Sound comes from black plastic "thing" under dash

that sounds like a relay ticking. Locate what is making the actual ticking and take a picture.

I'd bet it's one of the relays that are part of the aftermarket security/remote start system I see in the video.

That sounds like a failing relay ticking.

Replace that black box marked IN 0321. If you can't find a direct replacement for it, you will have to figure out which of the two wires operate the coil, and which two are on the switch. It may be wise to replace it with a relay that can handle more current. Its hard to tell from the photo, but if two of the wires are of a smaller gauge, its safe to say that they are on the coil side of the relay.

Its a relay that's a part of that aftermarket gizmo youve got in there. You can try to get a part number off the top of it, or try contacting the manufacture for a replacement. If you know how to use a voltmeter, you could replace it with an off the shelf relay from radio shack or autozone.
