Another Ballast Question

I couldn't find this in the FAQ's and How To's, if its hidden, forgive the duplicate.

I have a 2003 TL. One of my lights (drivers) wasn't coming on. I purchased 2 new lights to replace. Now, it works but not every time and the lights take a few seconds to fire up to max brightness. Sounds like the ballasts need replacing but I want to make sure I get the correct ballast.

I don't want to buy a whole kit as I just purchased 2 new lights . I'm looking on HIDExtra.com. I know I need the 35W AC ballast but I don't know if that's everything. I called but the person I spoke to kept coming back and forth to the call relaying information from someone else so I didn't get a good feeling.

Most of the FAQ's talk about the entire kit but I want to know is if I can disconnect the stock ballast and reconnect the aftermarket ones inline using the existing wiring.

Guess this was too difficult. As Acura has explained, you cannot add an aftermarket ballast. I guess that must be the case here.

Thanks anyway.

You can add an aftermarket ballast, it wont be plug and play with the oem harness but you can add them.

@fsttyms1

If you cut the harness off the oem ballast to use the plug & play ability and use connectors to put the aftermarket ballast harness together that would be the easiest way correct?

Yes, you could do that.

at hidextra you would order the 2 ballast and 2 `connector wires`
1 `relay kit` is a good idea too for the extra 16 bucks

getting the kit- if package deal is a better price- gives you 2 spare bulbs.
just in case whatever brand you have dies someday
I believe in having a backup plan --and parts - when reasonable--
bulbs are hard to find local in an emergency, keeping spares seems reasonable
