another annoying ac thread.

For the last year my ac and heat have worked on and off. When they choose to work my cold air blows icy cold and my heat could make you sweat if let running for too long. 2 weeks ago it did not work and my buddy hopped out and slammed my door somewhat and BOOM ac on. Stayed on for about and week and died out again. Its been like this on and off for 2 weeks now. i check the harness to the motor and it almost looks as if it had been replaced before(will provide photo tonight) I want to get this working without seeing the acura dealer or another "compressor" bullshit diagnosis. Should I check the transistor next? Please help.

The blower motor's wiring harness connector and transistor are common problems with our TL's.
Is the blower fan running at all the speeds from low to high ? If not, either the connector or resistor pack is bad.

What happens when you run the built-in diagnostics for the climate control?

I know this isn't particularly helpful but:

My sister's 2001 Accord did the exact same thing when she had it, and we must have had taken it to 15 places over the years, and not a single shop could replicate or locate the problem. Point being, this is seeming to be a common problem with these cars. My friend's TL did this same exact thing a few years ago. He's since gotten rid of the car, though.

Diagnostics.....

Yeah, with the complex climate control system.....if it's not the simple common stuff like the blower fan harness or transistor pack, this self diagnostic check may help.

Turn key to "On" position,
push "Auto" button, then also push "Off" button at the same time together,
if there's a letter fault code stored...it'll display in the temperature indicator area,
get the code if any, then reset the test by turning the key "Off".

common to need- or find its been done to your new ride, = the connector for fan power is just under the glovebox
for several reasons that connector fries itself--loose wire- rust- whatever
and often takes out the resistor with it,,or hurts it at least so it fails later

remove glovebox (see diy section) remove panel with motor and on backside is the resistor with a finned heat shield on it- remove that cover and inspect
its obvious if there is a problem!!

if the connector is not new- get the update kit at acura,,20 bucks or less iirc
install new part with longer wires~
replace resisitor as needed

clean vent/blower area as able with shop vac to remove cobwebs and leaves in the system
install new cabin air filter- its 2 pieces- they come together in the box from store ~$25
I like the one with activated charcoal and antibacterial stuff added
cuts down smells and germs
