am i covered or not weird..

I just bought a salvaged title 03 type s from a dealers auction
Now i've been scared shitless of the tranny problem, because i can't afford a new transmission anytime soon. I didn't do my homework before bidding i just saw a great deal and took it.
When i do my vin check on carfax its weird its says salvage and rebuilt title on the same day so i'm like wtf

My questions is everyone here and including myself agrees usually your not covered on the tranny if you have a salvage title but when i went to acura.com and registered the oil jet mod was done and i'm covered on the tranny

I'm afriad to call the dealer and ask because it might work against me.
Should i take this serious?
Thanks
Christian

The Owner Link simply looks your VIN up in an Acura database and determines what recalls apply and whether or not they'e been fixed. The Acura database doesn't interface to your state's vehicle registration system where the salvage title info is kept.

Since you have already bought the car, it's a moot point. If your tranny goes, take it in for service. I am not aware of any searches the dealer does to determine if your car has a salvage title.

If the recall hadnt been done yet (tranny recall) it would be performed, salvage title or not, since its a safety recall. The extension however will not be honored since the vehicle is salvaged.
The only way the tranny would be authorized to be replaced even if the title was salved is if under the saftey recall 2nd gear were to be found prematurely worn, other wise the jet line would be added and thats it.
In your case the recall has been performed and in case the tranny goes out in the future (wich is a probability) you'd be shit out of luck.

So calling the dealer will only confirm this. Sorry man.

If the dmv establishes your vehicle as salvage the dealer will know running the vin on the factory network.

You're saying Acura gets feeds from the DMVs in every state?

Yes they do. They will know that it's a salvaged title. Why do you think you got it so cheap? You give up the right to have anything fixed under standard warranty or mfgr extended warranties.

Do a 6 speed conversion... then you have no worries
Or check with your bank they might be able to sell you a warranty.

Recalls and Warrantee Issues are totally different. Seems to be the crux of your question...basically...you have no warrantee.

I can get the rebuilt ttitle taken off in PA
i know someone at the DMV and then i can either register it in New york
or Florida and it will be a normal title with no salvage in it

Would it make a difference

Depends on if you are willing to hang it out committing fraud and if your friend wants to join you in the hub-bub. Too trackable. #1 - everything done on a computer...especially at the BMV is traceble back to its origin...not to mention by the time it reaches that point...there are usually SEVERAL different records showing that the car has been salvaged (ie. junk yard records, insurance company records, ect)so it would be vitually impossible to do and it not have a slight chance of coming back to bite you in the ass before it was all said and done. I mean....I see your point of why you would want to do this...but then tell me that you are NOT going to sell it for full price and NOT mention the salvage issue when you go to sell it....and how you would feel had someone done this to you? Not good all around man!

just sucks, the car wasn't even in an accident, it was liened in Chicago and they salvage anything. Perfectly good car except for this damn tranny issue.
Anyway, Is there a performance tranny being made, something that'll hold up more than 20k miles

welcome to the salvaged club. I bought my 03 TL-S back in april with a salvaged title. with 37,000 miles, i paid 13k flat. However, i was scared shitless when i start using this forum cuz i found out the flaw about the tranny.

But the trick thing is, my tranny housing is a lil bit cracked due to the accident the car was in, and it was leaking some oil or fluid a while ago, but i got that repaired.

So, i went back to the dealer, saying that they should've told me about that CRACK in the housing, and argued enough that they gave me a 1 year warranty on the tranny. IF, anything fails due to the crack/leak, i will get it replaced. IF, anything fails due to the tranny failure, i can still argue that it was caused by the crack/leak, and i will get it replaced.

homeboy what you can do right now is considering sell the car back out, well thats the worst case scenario. What you really can do is just drive in D5, and stop using the SS, cuz i heard it increases the tranny failure. other than that, i guess you have no option...u jus have to stick with it. Im sure that if its been fixed before, it should be fine unless you really don't know how to step on the gas and let go when you're suppose to.

IMO, try to keep the RPMs below 4, preferably below 3.5. Let go of the gas before the RPMs reach the peak, so that you will "change" the gear w/o letting it change automatically.

dealers won't deal with salvage title cars bro - that's the reality, you get a bargain for these cars even though they're great cars (body/engine wise) but you lose the title that carries a lot of the recognition and warrantees. My car is actually a salvage title as well, i bought it a year ago - a 2003 TYPE S TL with Navigation with only 37,000 miles on it; my bro buys and sells cars from these dealer auctions and he sold it to me for cheap. But so far, my car's running strong. But i'm in the process of selling it; i wanna upgrade to a "salvage" G35 haha. i for one thing don't care about the salvage or clean title thing - as long as you're ready to commit to a car and drive it and not sell it, salvages are fine.

I was thinking what if i use SS and keep it between 1st and 2nd gear would that help with underusing the 3rd gear...
I drive in Brooklyn so the fasted on the streets you'd normally go is 35 before you have to stop at a light
What you guys thinks i just need to prolong this for about 5 thousand miles
so i can come up with money fo the tranny rebuilt

Right now i feel a slight jerk going into 3rd nothing crazy but its still feels like a manual jumping a gear

What can i do

like i said, be say on the pedal. don't step on the gas pedal hard enough to "force" it to shift into the next gear. Slightly let go of the gas pedal when you hit somewhere around 3 RPM, this way, the gears will change by itself. just drive easy and don't be mean to the car. have a "light" foot.
