Air intake hum fix?

Ive been messing with my intake trying to fix the hum that sr's do, and i removed that red hose going into the side of the intake, and the infamous annoying hum went away. i was wondering what exactly does that hose do? i dont have an overload of car know how but id like that question answered. Note.(this is not my intake, its difficult for me to upload photos so i found this one off the internet)

That's the engine fumes tube.. by hippies its works as the intake suck all fumes of burned oil into the atmosphere, its also said it helps the engine internal pressure so to help the pistons and what not but I think its all made really for the environment.. Cancel it but don't shut it as you may want those fumes away, Install a small filter to let the engine breath.. and be happy..

The hole by the Valve Cover gets the small filter..
Cover off the intake side.

The hum its from the filter when you open the hole it sucks air from it and lower the pressure on the filter, ITS NORMAL! CAIs make more sound from normal idle suction its okay.. If you don't want that sound you will need to go back to OEM and install the resonator its the job its made for to remove that hum.

The hum is from the air going into the intake manifold. That is why the stock intake has 2 resonators. Get rid of the SR and get a CAI if you want to get rid of the hum. Dont plug off the hose. It need the vacuum from the engine to help get air in and out of the crankcase.

How is the cai any different from Sri on that note? (besides the obvious cold air factor) isn't it the same besides a longer tube?

Nope usually SRI are cheaper thus more accesible but produces almost nothing but sound since it sucks the hot air inside the engine bay..

If your doing intake its CAI or you aren't upgrading at all, Stock system is even a plastic type of CAI.. SRI are a downgrade IMO unless they were real RAM INTAKE which sadly it isn't, its just a short pipe with a cone filter..

Will a cai still produce the same sound once you get on the gas?

Its almost the same loudness... but I think SRI its a bit louder.. Both will do enough sound at WOT! it will be louder than your stock exhaust, shit you wont even hear the exhaust anymore!

If you want to experience this right now just remove the intake resonator ;D it will surprise you.
