air intake computer ajust? more or less power?

after i first put the air intake in i got bad mileage but a lot of power. after the computer adjusted my mileage went up a lot....but did i lose power?

it almost fells like after the computer adjusted to the new air intake i lost power? but i could be wrong.

what happens when the computer adjusts? does it try to restore factory horse power? but like i said, i am not sure if the car has less power but after driving for a few weeks with the intake on it just does not seem like it was a peppy as it felt when i first put it in.

thanks

AEM short ram ( and it does suck up cold air from the cavity the resonator used to be in - i closed it off so it does with a custom box) pics are coming soon.

i just put the box in when i posted , after doing so i felt even more power. i guess the computer will adjust again.

but what is the computer doing - letting less fuel in or more. changing the mix of fuel and air? i can tell when it adjusted because the pitch of the engine changed slightly and became a little softer. i am going to up load the pictures shortly.

basicly used a small piece of sheet metal and aluminum tape to make the block off. it matched the tube (color wise) and doesnt look ricer.

Whats probably happening is with the modifications you get a slight gain in power, but it quickly becomes what you expect every time.

thanks, but does anyone have this happening to them? i know like almost everyone hear has an intake - they must be seeing the same thing happening? no? its not that i have gotten my power level restored to 225 hp, its just the car does not seem as peppy as it did when i first put the intake on. but at the same time it might have more torque and power its just the engine sounds pitch has changed a little making it seem like it has less power.

honestly i dont know if the change the computer made did anything (besides mileage) , my next step i guess is the dyno.

The only way to tell is a trip to the dyno. Some intake/exhaust upgrades gain hp at the low/mid rpm bands, but lose hp at the upper rpm band. Others gain hp at upper rpm band, but loses more at the low/mid rpm bands.

iv felt a lot more low end torque as well as more power in the v-tec band. over all i know i have more power - 0-60 is down to 7.2 sec from the stock timed 8 sec. on a good day iv have gotten a flat 7 sec maybe even under 7 sec now with the block off i made.

mainly i want to know is if the cars computer adjusts for less power after a mob is put in? or even if the computer may adjust for more power

thanks again very much

I believe the computer is ALWAYS readjusting. With an increase in air into the motor it will add more fuel to keep the proper air/fuel mixture. With more air and fuel you should be producing more power.

I stick by my statement that you are getting used to the additional power and so it stops feeling new. Get to a dyno to know for sure.

yea, because in the summer time when it is hot out the air is less dense, and winter it is cold out so it has to adjust. since i made my heat shield it seems to have the most power yet. it is faster and i think it is staying that fast.

but you are right about mostly likely getting used to having more power.

thanks again

You can always reset your ECU by removing the clock back up fuse for 1-2 minutes. Forces the computer to relearn from factory settings.
