Exclamation Air Conditioner Questions

1999 Green TL

My air conditioner is not working, more specifically is that there is air coming through but it is not cool. I want to take it in for an exam but I am fearful of getting ripped off. Jiffy Lube said they could test for leaks, and or it may just need freon. Has anyone experienced this issue.

My car is great and want to get this address, but I was also thinking about just leaving it alone. It was a salvaged car and the car sat for a few months prior to purcashing it and getting it running again.

So my main question, do you think it might just be out of freon or something major. And do you think Jiffy Lube filling it would be a good start of seeing what is wrong or is it most likely a compressor issue?

You'd have to install a pressure gauge on the system to find out.
If it was NEVER filled after the salvage, there should be zero pressure in the system; hell, even without a guage you can press one of the schrader valves and see that nothing vents out.
First, visually inspect the compressor, accumulator, hoses, and condensor. Looks for oil spots (wet areas) on all parts, especially the condensor coils (thru front grill).
Don't forget to check the fuse too.
If you have a leak it will just leak out again. It could be a ton of things: pressure sensor, temp sensor, compressor clutch, electrical, etc.

First mistake would be to take it to jiffy lube. They can't even change oil properly and that is what they specialize in. Being that it is a salvage car, the possibility of it being more then a simple fill is high. Its up to you if its worth fixing, but the longer an ac system stays like that the more it will cost to repair it later.

Best way to start is find a few certified AC specialist's and go to bbb.org and see if there are any complaints against them.

I would bring it some where that can test the system to see if it has any presure in it or if it can hold pressure with out leaking? If so it may need a simple recharge? Or it may need other parts. Only 1 way to find out. Need to bring it in.

AC Problems

It could be that your ac condenser fan broke. Same thing happened to me a year ago. I had my mechanic replace the fan and everything went back to normal.
